If you read the (admittedly long) article on the Green New Deal, you'll see that she managed to bring the issue much further along to Dem leadership than anyone working in that arena thought possible before she was even in office.

I suppose it’s still early, but I think she is. She pushed for reinstatement of the climate change committee, and while Speaker Pelosi didn’t give the committee all the power (subpoenas maybe? IDR) that AOC wanted it to have (and didn’t put her on) she was able to push through a requirement that the members would not take campaign cash from fossil fuel companies. My* middle of the road yet mostly environmentalist representative was appointed (and gave up her ExxonMobil money) and has been praising the Green Deal.

The kibbutz comment was directed at the GOPers who apparently think that being the only definition of socialism is “Venezuela.” (And while I don’t speak for the oamost Democrats aren’t anti-Israel so much as anti-Bibi. Much like, oh, 47 or so percent of Israelis.)

*By “my” I meant the member for Podunkville itself (where my office is). The congressdude where I live is an amiable former PI lawyer whose most significant legislative accomplishment is having the best tan in the post-Boehner House of Representatives.

She can do far more good as a media personality. Leave allies to write the bills. Let her be the face of them.

The demand she hunker down is just a ploy to drag her away from her pedestal by Ds and Rs who want her messages removed from the media cycle.

She should keep taking and doing appearances. Delegate the grunt work to the scriveners and policy wonks. AOC is smart enough to talk up the broad points from executive summaries.

She’s green but incredibly savvy, and as Trump has proven it’s largely about the cult of personality. She works media like a rock star. Let her be one.

If we've learned anything in the last ten years, it's that we need Presidents who are larger than life figures, Presidents who will solve all of our problems without the messy process of negotiation and building consensus and policy and the law and all of that other shit no one wants to think about.
