Here there is wisdom. For example:

Quote:

I thought this story [“The Mistake That Nearly Cost Me Everything,” by Piper Kerman] was very interesting, and I can’t wait to read her book. It’s amazing to think that something we may have done 10 years in the past could affect our future.

Kellymusil, marieclaire.com (Marie Claire, June 2010)

It’s amazing to think that when you do something, something else happens. It’s like, “What the?” (Imagine me looking slowly all around, like “Huh?”) (Now imagine I’m holding my fingers over my eyes like binoculars, looking around like I’m on safari. Now I’m pulling out a gun and acting like I’m shooting, like I’m hunting.)

I'm a big fan of ice baths and ice couches (the PMC has ice couches at a couple of rest stops). At the end of each ride I hunt out the kiddie pool with ice and soak my feet lower legs for at least 15 minutes.

I have more issues with my arms/shoulders/neck than I do with my legs. I try to pedal at a high cadence to keep the legs loose and walk around and stretch at each water stop. I also get a shoulder/neck massage whenever possible.

In general stay hydrated and eat every hour. First year, I hydrated with water only and suffered. Last year I added an electrolyte mix (2 tbs sugar, 1/2 tsp salt, 1 tsp baking soda, 1/2 tsp salt substitue and some lemon juice. add one 1 ounce to water bottle and fill with water) and it made a HUGE difference (I can't do most off the shelf sports drinks due to allergy issues). My personal rule of thumb is that I can't leave the rest stop until I've peed.

ETA: FYI - I'll be tweeting from the PMC again this year. For those not in MA, the PMC is more event than bike race and there are lots of stories to share. PM me if you want to follow along and I'll send you the Twitter info.

Margarita in a Camelback?

That's how my friends and I got through the rigorous route of Bay to Breakers in 2007.

After I put the kids to bed, the usual debate is cocktail or go for a run. There has to be a way to do both of these. Margarita in a Camelback?

Then, she informed me that there was a 35% chance of seeing the northern lights from Minneapolis, and that the best place to see them was from the south side of a park. She was pretty clearly hitting on me, so I told her that she was welcome to perform fellatio upon me at the park of her choosing. She feigned a kind of mixture of shock and outrage and then hung up, but only after giving me her cell phone number.

You've stooped to soliciting fellatio? That's one more hero unmasked.

And you are typically full of shit in misstating my point - that I don't believe the hunger statistics. Care to try again, or just admit now that this will end like your response regarding the Supreme Court caring about public opinion - with deafening silence.

Well, around here "soliciting" basically means "not taking great efforts to prevent" so I figured I could slide a little on that one.

Don't believe the hunger statistics all you want. Did you link to whatever stats you disbelieve?

I just don't understand McDonald's as being relevant to the discussion. That's not particularly cheap food if you're living on minimum wage.

You don't believe in God either, and you're going to hell. So go ahead and supersize that, Miss Barbara Dickson.

Maybe he's basing it on the fact that 40.8 million people now get food stamps (in addition to the McDonald's they are enjoying) and therefore can't be hungry.

Trademarks

Does anyone here handle trademark registrations and shit like that? If so, and if you're willing to give me a couple minutes of your time, send me a PM.

I have questions that need answers.

Can any of you crafty types recommend a website for ribbon and buttons and shit?

There is nowhere around here to get that stuff, and the google search gives me way too many hits.

Heh. She said "too many hits".
