It depends on when you are talking about. At one time, Liv was thin. Lately, she has porked out.

She was easily 160 in this photo:

Just did a very quick google search and found this:

(spree: long paper about interracial cohabitation/marriage. Didn't read all the way through, but it looked like it supported my recollection.)
That paper supports my observations. Thanks for the link, darth.

The disparity between the black-white interracial couples that I noted is even greater in the cohabitating couples compared to married couples. Interestingly, the disparity is less in cohabitating asian-white couples according to this study.

EvenOdds - seems like the group you queried wasn't a statistically significant sample.

Wasn't the original question about dating? Not cohabitating, not marriage, but dating? You responded her her answer with the wrong data. Those math grades didn't really translate well in your research methodology classes did they?

EvenOdds didn't say her sample was statistically significant, and she even posted an article suggesting the contrary.

I simply noted how this chat board appears to be a microcosm of the rest of the country in terms of interracial couples. I find that an interesting observation. I just noted it and asked others what their perception was.

Then you got all defensive and started citing non-statistically significant samples to try to say my observations aren't valid. You need to ask yourself why this makes you so defensive.

Here is a link someone sent me from a recent salon.com article:

"In 1998, black-white couples in which the wife is black made up 37 percent of all black-white marriages nationwide, up from only 22 percent in 1980."

http://archive.salon.com/mwt/feature...xed/index.html
I think the fact that the disparity may be closing is an interesting observation, too. However, I agree with the poster who said that there may be problems trying to compare one set of census data to another set, given the changes in the census survey.

Anyhow, I find it more interesting than the rapist wannabe's post about Russian nymphet pop stars. Don't let my erudite posts get in the way of you chatting about that.

No. It was about couples in general. Reading comprehension isn't your strong point, either, eh? I would be interested in looking at data on dating couples (as opposed to cohabiting or married couples), too. Please, if you have a link, post it. All I was able to find in my quick Google search was married census data. Then darth sent me the link with married and cohabitating data. If someone has the link on dating couples, please post it.

Here is the quote of what I said:
Quote:

I have noted that several white female posters here date, have dated, or are married to black men. Yet, I don't recall a single white male poster who has said that they date, have dated, or are married to a black woman.

Why are the overwhelming majority of black-white interracial couples in the US black men-white women couples? Why do I rarely see white men-black women couples?

I sincerely doubt that either you or EvenOdds understand what the concept of statistical significance is. EvenOdds clearly attacked my observation as a misperception caused by some bias of mine and used nothing more than antecdotal evidence to base her attack. I then stomped all over her with facts and logic. heh-heh.

Other than to say that the use of broad census data is more likely biased if it is not taken within a single census period, which, if you recall, you agreed with, there has been no discussion of statistical significance thus far in this discussion. I'll be happy to review your methodology, sample size and (deidentified) data.

Your original observation as stated was based off of a recollection of the FB's dating habits. E/O responded with some anecdotal data within her own circle of friends about dating, and she followed up her response with a statistic AND an article that indicated that yes, white-woman/black-man marriages were more common than white-man/black-woman marriages, but that the statistics were coming closer to even as time goes on. Just as your original comment was brought through anecdotal (non-statistically significant) evidence, so was E/O's. But both of you brought forth more statistical evidence that suggested a disparity, but did not specifically answer the original question posed.

No, baby, I don't think you're romanticizing it, and FTR, it's not my take on what it means. I always thought it was about size, technique, and overall sexiness, but that's probably because (1) I am a woman and (2) I first heard the expression from a very sexy black man.

My penis envy comment was meant to get at the primary meaning many (I did not say all, bilmore) men might attribute to the saying.

White man / black woman dating/marriage will overtake white woman / black man dating/marriage simply because large and steadily increasing gender gap when it comes to blacks getting college degrees.

Of course, maybe not. Overall, women are at something like 60% of college students -- only so many college educated men to go around ... even fewer after crossing off the zeros.

Once Hugo Black is a funny name. Sure, it's a play on a stereotype about the sexual prowess of black males, but I think most black men aren't making a tremendous effort to dispel that particular stereotype. I would think they'd focus on other, more troubling issues, first.

I've seen more black male/white female and more white male/asian female couples than their counterparts. I remember a Spike Lee interview about 10 years ago where he commented that white men dated fantastic black women while black men didn't fare so well with white women. That seemed far more vitrolic than factual to me.

Growing up in the Bay Area and attending college in state, interracial relationships seemed common, especially white men/asian women. I think that's based primarily on stereotypes of Asian women as more docile. I've seen websites for men to marry Asian women, but I've never seen a website where African women in search of visas (or perhaps true love) promoted their availability to men.

I don't really have a laminated list for TV, but...
The Daily Show
NFL (not College)
Changing Rooms (not Trading Spaces)
Letterman (not Leno)
Aqua Teen Hunger Foice
Sealab 2021

I seem to catch reruns more often than originals. That's how I got into Six Feet Under.

If you are talking non-American Asian women, the docile label is not a stereotype, it is reality. Although there are exceptions to the rule, the stereotype still holds largely true for first generation Asian-american women raised by asian parents who were born and raised in Asian cultures and immigrated to the US. As you get into the second and third generation Asian-americans, the stereotype is less applicable.

On 24. Loved the show for the first few episodes but it has completely imploded. Salon did a good piece on why this has happened- probably bc they did not plan out the story for the whole season and they are flailing. They esp dont know what to do with the bad bleach job called the Daughet Kim. I have had to stop watching.

I would add my new favorite show, Family Business. I cant believe nobody has mentioned this show. You guys must not have Showtime. About Seymour Butts, a Jewish porn guy, who is quite the hottie btw, and I would do him if he confirmed he would nto stick his prick in any of those other hos and he would stop dressing like some sort of pseudo white homeboy.

Others would be (if I had a Tivo which I will soonly)
Da Ali G Show
Queer as Folk
Six Feet under (which was amazing this week)
AI
Survivor (barely- I could live iwthout it)
Dennis Miller reruns (bc I hated him when they actually ran but now I heart him)
Maybe Bill Maher real time. On fence about that one.
Curb
Inside the Actors Studio
Sorority land Fraternitiy Life since I can never remember when they are on.
Conan
The Office

For the most part, I miss many of these shows since I dont TiVo. Probably jsut as well since I am not convinved that watching thismuch tv is a healthy thing.
