I'm (honestly) not understanding why he isn't serving out his term, unless there is something that is going to come out, or I missed it but there was a petition or something that 80% of the people in his district signed, asking him to step down. He won the R primary (and pretty handily, I think), so it doesn't seem like his constituents think he's THAT bad for the district . . .

Stepping down just seems whiny.

His announcement is that he'll be stepping down in a few months. I suspect this has everything to do with keeping the seat Republican, and that there will be some interesting jockeying to fill his spot on the ticket. He's a conniving son of a bitch even in death - got to admire that.
