And I’m out. I like each of you “learned” people but always get bothered when you start talking about Jews.

My point is very simple: Bret Stephens is wrong when he suggests that opposition to Israeli policies is somehow driving anti-Semitism in this country, and wrong in a way that's bad for the Jews. Nor was it good for the Jews for him to write a column relying on eugenicists suggesting that Ashkenazis are innately smarter than other people. If you are opposed to anti-Semitism (and I believe he is, fwiw), it's still a pretty shitty approach to argue that Jews don't deserve it because they're smarter than everyone else.
And I don't know what's bothering you -- that's really your problem, and I'm not sure I can help you with it -- but when I write posts about what's wrong with Bret Stephens and anti-Semitism and anti-anti-Semitism, I'm not "talking about Jews."

As an intro the guy raised why the increased hate is happening. Ty cites a blog that “responds” to the point by focusing on the single background sentence.

Are you dense? The opening paragraph of Judis's piece (n.b. -- I believe Judis is Jewish, and TPM's founder certainly is) is:
Quote:
After the poisonous response I got to my book, Genesis: Truman, American Jews, and the Origin of the Arab-Israeli Conflict, I vowed to stay out of discussions about Jews and Israel, but I keep breaking my resolution. Most recently it is over the coincidence of the anti-Semitic attacks in New Jersey and New York and New York Times’ columnist Bret Stephen’s column on Jews and anti-Semitism, in which he manages simultaneously to reinforce one of the historic tropes of anti-Semitism — that Jews are a superior race — and blame critics of Israel’s rightwing government for the outbreak of anti-Semitism.

Again, not sure what your problem is, but I would point out that everyone involved in this conversation: Stephens, Judis, you, me, Sebby seems to be acting (imo) out of good faith and genuine commitment to avoiding what is bad for the Jews.
