I follow wayyy too many trad catholics. They all view this as some kind of heroic battle against satanic feminist witches. Biden is Henry the II and they're noble little Thomas Beckett's willing to die for their faith.

It's such a twisted image of the world.

Starting at 10:00, this is one of the funniest scenes in any movie in the last two decades: https://vimeo.com/32806944

Yes, that's Eric Andre.

If it's a foul in the box, it's a penalty, even if the player fouled is dribbling away from goal with 11 defenders between him and the goal. No doubt, it was a soft call. But, the Danish defender should not have let the ref make that call, and the final score was not unfair to England, which was the better team.

If I'm going 60 in a 55 MPH zone I'm speeding, but that doesn't mean the cop must pull me over. Em can decide it isn't worth the penalty.

Well he didn't make the ref make the call. I think what you mean is he shouldn't have given the ref the opportunity. Agreed.

I don't even know what this means. The score is how the game is decided. It isn't a judged sport. And other than an own goal it would have been Denmark in regulation. Maybe I'm ignorant but to me that mean Denmark played better.

I’m half Calabrese so of course I’m happy, but honestly I’d have loved to have seen Italy play the second best team, instead of England.

It's a fairly common thing for people to say about soccer.

The score is how the game is decided, as they say.

Saka was played in and delivered a cross that Sterling was going to knock if Kjaer hadn't done it for him. There are own goals and then there are own goals, and this one wasn't like Pedri's goal in the Spain-Croatia game. It was the result of good offensive play by England.

I'm not sure why you're being so truculent about the English team, but if it's because of their fans, I salute you for that.

All I could think is that if I were an Italian fan at that stadium yesterday I’d be wearing white for safety purposes.

I highly, highly, highly recommend a book by Bill Buford about English soccer hooligans called Among The Thugs. Just an incredible book.

I read it years ago. Very good, and it came up in conversation with a friend here just days ago. Fever Pitch (the book, not the movie) about being an Arsenal fan when they were a powerhouse is also very good at explaining the psyche of an English football fan.

With you it seems like it always ends up with a bike metaphor.
