2. Gore or Kerry, for that matter. Also, I doubt we would have Obama as President-elect now, if Bush hadn't won the last two elections, so, in a post-partisan kumbaya, we should be thankfull for that.

Or is he playing out the joker in Nicholson makeup every day? That shit is like...deep.

Besides, without Nicholson's potrayal, which was indeed, dark, Ledger wouldn't have known where to start.

I hate Danny DeVito, but you gotta love the Penguin best.

Fuck. That. For starters, they would have done an immeasurably better job with Katrina. Nothing any of you pricks say will convince me otherwise.

I find it interesting that this is the first response that actually tries to name something positive about Bush's tenure rather than defend the things that happened during his tenure as being caused by events beyond his control.

You're right. He did not get blown by an intern. Is that the pearl?

This is like saying we should be glad W was President, because otherwise we wouldn't have gotten Obama. Which only a moron would say.

eta: Oops.

2. Nicholson was playing Nicholson. He hasn't played anything else since One Flew Over the Coo Coo's Nest.

eta: Oops.

I'm leaving. So a lack of response to anything should not be taken as a surrender. although WRT GGG, I am taking a no mas attitude for the forseeable future. also, Sidd's new schtick is tired after two shots. I'm reminding him that standard comedy limits a routine to three times, unless it's gold on the level of say, the gilligan posts.

finally, I would appreciate if someone could answer my question about what Obama will do with the people remaining at Gitmo. The ones who really can't be tried for much.

Deep Thought

In high school, not getting blown was the mark of a loser.

Now, not getting blown is the greatest achivement of a President.

What happened?

You can't convince me of that. Katrina is as inextricably rooted in the Feds failures as it is in the State and local governments failures, and those would not have changed. Now the next time with Obama, Jindal and Cao in there, I would expect a flawless response, but Gore, Nagin and Blanco would likely have been an F performance. Maybe on 1-100 scale in the Bush universe it would have been a 45 and the Gore universe a 49, but an F is an F is an F.

Something good about Bush: He refused to play along with his party's harsh and xenophobic position on immigration. Comprehensive immigration reform didn't happen under his watch, which is a failure, but it's not for his lack of trying to do the right thing with immigration. The status quo is better than what his party wanted to do, and hopefully things will get better rather than worse in the Obama administration.

(I will note, though, that members of his administration are assholes when it comes to building that stupid ass wall down in the Valley. Don't fucking tell Texans that they want terrorists to come into the country when they object to your coming in and taking away their land. I will not be sad to see Chertoff go.)

So he has not had to settle any criminal actions that were asserted against him, that is a plus, although there a couple of days left.......

eta: and no impeachment

He's totally fucked on this. There was no good way out once any of them were abused in any fashion (there are 33(!) on feeding tubes right now); if there were a workable solution, it would have been broached in some fashion already.

There's a reason beyond abuse of executive branch power that Bush/Cheney have been fighting so hard to get these guys tried somewhere, by something resembling a legal court--and if there hadn't been soo many other shenanigans, perhaps they'd deserve the benefit of the doubt.
