The sausage is made almost as badly in all of them now. The layoffs in journalism are so bad I'm tempted to argue blog fact checking might be around 80% as good these days.

Taibbi's best selling point is he doesn't know what he's talking about. He's writing with a liberal Joe Sixpack's eye and it's resonating with people who otherwise can't wrap their heads around the conflicting and confusing methodologies of finance.

I like him better when he's doing politics. That's low and simple and slices it apart nicely. He's no HST, but a guy who's unafraid to write as he speaks is always a welcome read for me. And I think he really tries to stay as close to the middle as a lefty can be, which is probably what a good reporter/editorialist ought to be.

The Times is recovering, thankfully. There was a spell there when the economy got really shaky where their articles became terribly thin and dull. You could almost sense they were just looking for text they didn't have to check too much to stuff into the pages.

The Journal's Oped page is beginning to piss me off. Murdoch's quest to bludgeon the Times is turning it into a rant column farting the same "We hate [Obama/Unions/Progressives]" shit over and over. I'm fine with those criticisms, but make the shit interesting. And for God's sake, somebody throw Peggy Noonan out a fucking window. Her lamentations for a better day when "men and women knew their place," we all ate dinner together and everybody loved Jesus gives me worse gas than broccoli rabe sauteed in fresh garlic. You're a dried up old bitch, Peggy. Nobody wants to hear your shit about how the Royal Family should behave in a more austere fashion in a Saturday column. Go away. Your time is past and, unlike Andy Rooney, who remains endearing and open minded beneath his crotchety exterior, you come off like a sour wanna-be elitist fart. Fuck off. Take a trip around the world and leave someone who has a sense of humor to use the space.

No, actually the primary, if not sole, necessitating poster was me. You are showing your ignorance. Post something about religion..you are good at that topic, or at least you seem to be.

If this is the kick-off to a K-race, let me just say, "ick."

Otherwise, carry on.

Depends on your goal. And I think Hank nailed the GOP thinking on that.

Is this reverse psychology? Trying to get Hank to change his view by agreeing with him?

Moonbeam for President?

I don't have a full handle on the specifics of his proposals yet, but Brown's tone is exactly right for the times. I wish more politicians would be honest in this way:

"It's better to take our medicine now and get the state on a balanced footing."

"What I propose will be painful. It's going to take sacrifice from every sector of California, but for 10 years this state has put together its budget with gimmicks and tricks and unrealistic expectations that have pushed this state deeper and deeper into debt."

I'm only agreeing with him that the Rs would rather try to beat up the Ds in the next election cycle rather than repeal it. That seems pretty obvious to me.

I like what I hear from him. I hope the legislators will play ball.

The Rs look primed to act like the Ds on that, tho, passing stupid bills with stupid, expensive carve-outs/add-ons/exclusions that the Ds, if they can pull their heads out (doubtful, of course), would be able to say "we're voting against this b/c it's fiscally irresponsible and will increase the deficit".

Adder 01-11-2011 11:20 AM

Skeleton indeed.

Perhaps I should read the whole thing, but this certainly doesn't make Assange sounds uncrazy.
