Peleton got stuck at a train crossing the other day. It's in the rules: race event. Weird, but I kind of like it. It makes it seem old school. Like our event isn't so important that we can make trains from stopping across the route. And if that happens, that's cycling.

Anyway, I'm still trying to imagine how the tour ever survived when it started with stages that were 500km long. 500km!! On those old crappy bikes. Mon dieu!

What a bizarre idea. My view is that every stage should at least start or end in France. It's not the tour du mond. And the tour du pont died an early death.

Problem is, what's to stop some group from jumping in front of, say, Lance's group, for political reasons while some, say, French contender rides off into the sunset???

Speaking of the Tour, where's Penske's two cents on this??? I know it's Podium Girl season and all, but...

The tour du pont was too early in history. There are discussions to resurrect, but the new stage race that has garnered coverage on OLN and decent racers is the Tour of Georgia.

All Texas can offer (aside from the Ride for the Roses, which always attracts the Posties and used to feature pros in the downtown crit) is the Hotter N Hell 100 in Wichita Falls.

I'm sure they could handle it. Although it's not like the guy who was knocked over by the photographer while leading up L'Alpe D'Huez a couple of years ago was cut any breaks. That's cycling.

This would be cool. The next step would be selling off the post-death rights to your organs - sort of a reverse mortgage concept.

OK, I'm actually billing some time today and come to the board to catch up and I discover talk of religion and politics on the fashion board and confessions of hot, lascivious lust on the Mom's and Dad's board. What gives?

Moreover, as I read through the FB posts I discover that both Bilmore and Thurgreed (even when disagreeing with each other) seem to make a lot of sense. I have always thought that Bilmore had a way of making even the most idiotic position sound rational and that Thurgreed's unique talent was to make even the most rational position sound like blatant idiocy, so finding myself thinking they each had something sensible to say and said it reasonably is very disconcerting.

Then I discover that the fact that I missed all this excitement has led to a death threat from Bilmore, who is now starting to sound like Thurgreed.

I say we start a religion board where we can insult each other's religions with the same vigor we insult each other's politics and taste. This could bring out entirely new facets of everyone's "personality". What do you think?

(Edited to say, I'm adding Kim Possible to my laminated list.)

Then we can sell babies!!! I'd have a baby if I would end up with (a) a shitload of money and (b) no baby to raise. I'm sure based on such things as test scores I could get a bundle for it, but my advanced age might cut against me.

I wouldn't want to have one on spec, though.

Pat Robertson is praying for change on the Supreme Court (excerpt from cnn.com) --

Robertson has launched a 21-day "prayer offensive" directed at the Supreme Court in the wake of its 6-3 June vote that decriminalized sodomy. Robertson said in a letter on the CBN Web site that the ruling "has opened the door to homosexual marriage, bigamy, legalized prostitution and even incest."

The same letter targets three justices in particular: "One justice is 83-years-old, another has cancer and another has a heart condition. Would it not be possible for God to put it in the minds of these three judges that the time has come to retire?"

On the bright side, he didn't actually go so far as to tell his followers to go kill one of them. What an exercise of restraint.

So if they don't change the ruling, does that mean god believes that the decision was correct? Isn't that risky for them?

Duh, that just means that America doesn't have enough true Christians praying hard enough, and that until they can convert everyone to their way of thinking, Robertson's followers are being punished by God by having the 'sodomy is OK' ruling out there. As soon as they pray (prey?) hard enough, God will get someone righteouser on the Court and all will be well again.

perhaps you remember when one of pat robertson's fellow religion for profit snake oil salesmen oral roberts said that if i do not raise $11,000,000 (or whatever the figure was) by a certain date that God would call him home?

so we are talking about a group of people who do not think their actions through very clearly here. but i guess that getting millions of dollars from elderly people who have nothing better to do with their time than watch televanglists or electing republicans is way more important that bringing christianity and God into disrepute.
