So, now to your ostensible dilemma. No one who lives in Mpls needs a Silverado unless your job involves hauling truck loads of stuff around. Combined with the garage space issue, that truck has to go.

I think one vehicle is too limiting for the Twin Cities even if you live downtown -- don't you ever have to go out and visit clients or do something outside of downtown that she doesn't want to do? Will the 1-2 times a week you'd end up driving always be times when the GF won't be needing the one car or is it worth it to rent a car for those times? If you like the Infiniti, keep it and rent another parking space from a codger. Then she can get a smaller SUV that she likes and you don't have to find one you both like.

The Moth www.themoth.org is starting monthly slams in Minneapolis. That means i will be there within the year. Can you, Abba and Adder sit together at a bar table for an evening? I remember going to SF and not being able to get Paig's and Less to do as much, even with the carrot of meeting ME!

Surely you didn't expect Less and Paigs to be in the same room.

The MN Lawtalkers have no such issues (at least none I've heard of). If we can heckle, I'll totally be there. :D

Maybe we'll compete against you.

Coming to Mpls just for the Moth??? Has anyone mentioned that you are just a little obsessive about this???

Bobby Fischer travelled to the USSR to play chess. No one called him obsessed, just the best in the world.

It's not stand up. Even Wonk and GGG didn't heckle me.

St. Paul.

I could be convinced to go. Also, likely, the fiancé.

Occasionally I need to visit a client, but not all that often. Mostly I drive o. The weekend. Zip car may even serve for whe. We actually need two.

And no, the truck is going.

I don't have a clue about how it works winter driving (I assume pretty good given German engineering), but I adore my VW Jetta Sportswagen TDI. You might want to test drive to see if you think it's sporty enough. It's not that high off the ground, but I don't miss the SUV in the slightest.

Congratulations on the relationship upgrade!

Part 1 of 2

A friend of mine just announced on Facebook that she is in a relationship with a dude who, when you go to his page has this as his company's job description:
Quote:

In a nutshell, KuKaZi is an extremely well positioned and unique business development agency that creates, develops and executes unique brand extensions for a myriad of entertainment entities, ultimately fueling unrecognized revenue streams forever more.

KuKaZi helps these same entities and artists discover new business models, outside of their primary skill-set, inherently generating long-term income, above and beyond their core craft. Specializing in the conceptualization and subsequent licensing of branded entertainment (consumer products and beyond), KuKaZi also possesses unparalleled experience in broadband, mobile, gaming, as well as traditional broadcast and cable industries. And with KuKaZi’s innate ability to transform collaborative vision into innovative and effective revenue-centric reality, it’s no wonder that KuKaZi maintains a stellar and proven track record for adding to the top and bottom lines.
Please, please, can I make fun of it?

Yelp! is looking for an attorney. This is their ad on Craigslist:
Quote:

Yelp is looking for a razor sharp attorney to join its small and fabulous legal team. This is a generalist role reporting to the company's General Counsel. The ideal candidate will have a background in a broad range of issues affecting fast-growing consumer internet companies, and will have substantial experience doing advisory work.

Some of the things you may find yourself working on: helping to steer our gregarious community management team through legal minefields in dozens of different jurisdictions, managing the risks associated with a rapidly expanding employee base across multiple continents, and staying one step ahead of evolving consumer privacy standards on new platforms. The list goes on...

...

We are looking for passionate lawyers who are intrically motivated to do high quality work while winning critical style points along the way.

Please include a cover letter that explains why you're a good fit for us given our needs.
I am inclined to write a cover letter starting with "I am a good fit because you need someone who doesn't write like a moron."

I/we currently only have one parking space at my building. The garage dates to the mid-1980s, which means it doesn't really accommodate large pickups well. Meanwhile, if I'm not driving to her place, I may only drive once or twice a week. My car is fun, but not terribly practical in the snow (there are days when I can't drive it, but with new tires, only a few of them). She's not all that comfortable driving it with its manual transmission and relatively heavy clutch.

Option 1: Rent an unused parking space from one of the old geezer's around here who doesn't use her's and buy a second car. That's maybe a hundred or so a month (only residents can park there, so it's sort of cheap) for the spot plus whatever for the vehicle. I'm leaning against this option as I'm not that keen to spend a bunch more money just to keep around my car, which would functionally become a toy.

Option 2: Replace both cars with a new (probably technically used) one. The issue is that I want something sporty and fun, and really am not a fan of SUVs. Meanwhile, she doesn't want to drive a sedan and wants to be higher off the road (for some reason) than that. So, yeah, she would prefer an SUV, even a small one.

At this point, I think I'm resolved to option 2, but I'm looking for vehicle ideas. The obvious choice is the Lexus RX, which I've driven a bit and am sort of okay with, but feels really conventional (and my parents have one). I'm still holding out hope of talking her into an Impreza or an Outback or a CTS-V wagon or something. But really, she's the one who will drive it every day.

Ideas?

Subarus have the best all wheel drive system, are cheap and limp along forever.

It's a Jedi mind trick. By the word "broadband" I was saying "those are not the droids I am looking for."
