Family who are consummate bargain-hunters recently did something similar, also with Home Depot, I believe. Dark wood, custom-made cabinets refaced and painted white. Because of the whacky custom aspects (built by previous owners), there are still some minor drawer issues but generally looks great. They also got new counter tops that's the stone-looking Corian (or whatever it's called). Nice look and not radioactive like the Chinese marble apparently installed in many homes.

ETA They have a fairly new fridge already and just bought a new dishwasher with state bailout appliance program that gives buyers back $250.

I should add that we had quite a bit of demo as well since there was a bathroom in the middle of the kitchen (don't ask).

I don't really care about your personal taste. In fact, I figured you would have seen my response and sat back and thought, "It's kinda weird that I was posting my top ten (or nine) and they were all super white." But the next time we all talk beauty standards on the board, this will come in handy. And not in a Wonk-only-likes-white-girls kinda way. More like: You can understand what I mean when I talk about what the unspoken beauty standard (skin color, bone structure, build, lips, nose, etc.) is in this country. KnowhatImean?

I think they get as excited as the rest of us. I tend to think that most sportscasters are fans who actually get to work in sports. They like to think they're real journalists, but we all know it's bullshit. At least the Sports Guy is honest in his approach.

I hired a contractor so I didn't have to learn these terms.

Some of it. We had to be careful because we were keeping the bathroom plumbing so we could use it in the island.

Our contractor was great. Not quite as good as Mike Holmes, but close.

I don't care about his personal preferences. Or, as you say, people like what they like (although I tend to think people are programmed to like certain things almost as much as ads reflect what people like, but that's a whole 'nother topic).

I think Wonk just listed women he finds attractive off the top of his head. If I was asking him and if he didn't just post something quickly, he would probably have included some women of color. My point is that we all know Wonk isn't racist and that he probably finds many asian, black and hispanic women very, very attractive. But I think it supports what I tend to argue when we have these types of arguments (i.e., the last one I had with Sebby) about what features in this country tend to be considered baseline beautiful or desirable.

I didn't say it was weird that he likes a certain look. I believe this is common. I don't understand it, but that's because I have very different tastes and love variety.
