Yes. I will now concede that Ted Cruz is a self-interested unprincipled prick.

So much for the idea that Cruz doing something self-promoting and strategically questionable was merely a caricature.

Consider me disappoinTED.

George Bernard Shaw was at a party once where he was introduced to the starlet du jour. They conversed for a bit and Shaw asked her if she would sleep with him for a million pounds.

"For a million pounds! Of course!" she replied.

Shaw asked if she would sleep with him for a shilling.

"Mr. Shaw! What sort of lady do you think I am?"

"That, my dear, has already been established; all that remains is to agree on a price."

Something I didn't know: Buckwheat Zydeco (may he RIP) started in a funk band. I have not been able to find Buckwheat funk, though.

I looked for it too. Nothing. Could not even find the "hit single" discussed in Wikipedia. RIP, indeed. He always put on a high energy fun show.

Ask and you shall receive. Kind of. Not really funk, but definitely funky, Boogaloo was a music that sprung up in Spanish Harlem in the 60s, influenced by latin music of the time, including heavy Cuban influence, and also funk and R&B. A great document of this music is found on Secret Stash, which is just a fantastic local record label. Their Boogaloo album is great, and turned me on to this music. I also just love the album cover.

http://shop.secretstashrecords.com/c...-live-boogaloo

One of the biggest Boogaloo hits is not on the above album. It is by Joe Cuba (who was Puerto Rican). It is, to say the least, infectious. Today's Daily Dose is "Bang Bang":

I don't know, but my hope for the debate is that Trump would say something to motivate women voters, and she definitely got that out of him with the Alicia Machado stuff. And as usual, rather than letting it die with a facile apology, he's doubled down.

Hillary's actually out-performing Obama in the polls among white people. If she can get anywhere near similar turnout among POC (definitely an if) and/or women, it won't be close.

I'm just surprised we aren't seeing more comparisons between coke-head Trump behavior and stoner Johnson behavior. Is it only people who lived through the 80s who can easily spot this stuff?

Instead we scold Dean for asking a rather obvious question. And Trump just denies he was sniffling and/or asserts it was a mic.

I am simply amazed that we are at a point in our collective history where the possible President of the United States is fucking rage-tweeting in the middle of the night about a sex tape of a woman who he already humiliated when she was 18 years old.

Can you imagine what the press would have done to any other candidate, any other year for behavior even remotely like this? Howard Dean's candidacy ended when he yelled, "Rowr!" Donald Trump is fucking 70 years old and a multi-millionaire who has spent the last week talking about how Rosie O'Donnell deserved to be insulted in a Presidential debate and complaining about a beauty pageant winner who he thinks is being mean to him.

Where are we? What is this place? What the actual fuck?

An alleged sex tape.

The world is upside down. The center cannot hold. But we can still get down with a little blaxploitation soundtrack flute funk. What? Yup. Today's Daily Dose is "Lay It On Your Head" by Don Julian from the Savage! movie soundtrack. I like that the entire Wikipedia entry for the movie is:

"Savage! is a 1973 American blaxploitation film directed by Cirio H. Santiago. The film deals with a strapping young black mercenary blowing things up in the jungle.

The soundtrack is by Don Julian."

New theory: Trump knew tax scams and all his other crimes would come out and he would get an effective pardon. Hillary cannot prosecute.

Edit- my daughter, who is considering law school, suggests Obama pardon Trump a week before the election.

I was thinking the same thing yesterday. Only problem is that those things probably wouldn't have come out if he wasn't running for president.

Nonetheless, it's hard to see him being meaningly prosecuted for this stuff (not even sure any of it is actually a crime, but still).

Would a federal pardon absolve him of state crimes?

Right now Cuomo seems like Trump's biggest problem.

Though I suspect his friendly IRS auditor may be considering a criminal referral based on some of the foundation stuff.

From what I could see there was near unanimity in giving the night to Pence on style points - he was just less annoying than Kaine - but this next week to Kaine on substance and set up. I think that's right, but we'll see as it plays out.

But think of what this means: last night was Pence's try-out for leadership of the conservative core of the Republican Party in a post-Trump world, and he did well - very well - by showing them that he could deny reality with a straight face. That is what they have come to; it is what they want.

No.

Perhaps Trump has dirt on Cuomo: http://articles.orlandosentinel.com/...e-transactions

Too easy to perceive as nakedly political. Also, too much work. (And they probably know he can't pay any huge assessment and fines anyway.)

Isn't that kind of what it's always been? It's not false equivalence to assert denying facts with a straight face is a job requirement of every politician, from school board hack to POTUS.

But, as Adder noted, Pence may have won the battle for the TV audience and lost the war for the much larger digital audience.
