Because the Americans that fall into the gap -- not poor enough to get Medicaid and not enough money or good enough job to have insurance -- tend to at least have something that the hospital can go after for payment. And believe me, they do. And the legal residents have social security numbers and the like to make them easy to track down for payment.
Illegals tend to come into the hospital, get treated and then disappear -- you are not readily trackable if you are here illegally.

What you fail to understand is that the only aliens I am opposed to are foreign hockey players -- I think they should have to become American citizens so that they can't play for another country and kick Team USA's ass in the Olympics.

What does a concealed-carry permit have to do with anything? I don't know how to "prove" this one way or the other (how would one keep statistics on this, since illegal aliens don't go sign themselves up for anything), but of the pool of deadbeats, certainly on a per-capita basis, and likely on an actual-numbers basis, I would wager that the homegrown ones make up a much larger percentage than the illegal aliens.
