I don't care about his personal preferences. Or, as you say, people like what they like (although I tend to think people are programmed to like certain things almost as much as ads reflect what people like, but that's a whole 'nother topic).

I think Wonk just listed women he finds attractive off the top of his head. If I was asking him and if he didn't just post something quickly, he would probably have included some women of color. My point is that we all know Wonk isn't racist and that he probably finds many asian, black and hispanic women very, very attractive. But I think it supports what I tend to argue when we have these types of arguments (i.e., the last one I had with Sebby) about what features in this country tend to be considered baseline beautiful or desirable.

I didn't say it was weird that he likes a certain look. I believe this is common. I don't understand it, but that's because I have very different tastes and love variety.

I read what you wrote, but if I didn't skew it a little bit, how was I going to generate an interesting response?

Find the nearest rural area with low employment and put it out to bid among 3 custom outfits.

We can get work done around here by people coming down from NH for about 1/2 to 2/3 what the suburban Boston contractors charge. And for bigger jobs or custom carpentry that can be transported, the Eastern Townships just north of the NH border are even cheaper.

Its like buying in the 3rd world.

At all costs, stay away from the big outfits, like Home Depot and Lowes. They hire the same people, just jack up their prices by 20% and give them shoddy stuff to work with.

I don't think this is Wonk's fault. It's societies. They put the clear women in too many leading roles.

For a start, Wonk needs to watch every movie Penelope Cruz has ever made ten times.

And now you know that skewing won't work either. I'm just not that interesting.

But here is a photo of Sophia Vergara:

So you're saying we shouldn't get all-white counters and cabinets?

wrt wonk we are actually only certain of one life choice that he made- to be a tax lawyer- so I think it's safe to say wonk's synapses don't always fire right when it comes to choices. maybe it's nature maybe it's nurture.

I helped demo a bathroom when my uncle remodeled his rental duplex. It was old lathe & plaster so it was particularly fun tearing at it with the crowbar.

What's photoshopped? Sebby's video?

Yes, the video. I've seen it before and she's wearing a bikini top. Not one with a lot of coverage mind you, but a top nonetheless.

In fact, I figured you would have seen my response and sat back and thought, "It's kinda weird that I was posting my top ten (or nine) and they were all super white." But the next time we all talk beauty standards on the board, this will come in handy. And not in a Wonk-only-likes-white-girls kinda way. More like: You can understand what I mean when I talk about what the unspoken beauty standard (skin color, bone structure, build, lips, nose, etc.) is in this country. KnowhatImean?

TM

I wasn't posting my top ten or nine. I was just posting a few of the first women that came to mind. And I also wasn't talking beauty standards. It was strictly a "who would I fuck instead of that crazy bitch Angelina Jolie."

You will have noted by now that I was able to come up with a list of women with some color as quickly and easily as the first list.

I have never quarreled with you on the point that we all have some inherent racism in us. We do. But the truth is I do try hard to recognize it and shove it aside and you know that.

So I repeat, fuck you very much.

i don't think there is that ability in video.

Jesus Christ, Wonk. You're getting offended over nothing. I gave you some friendly shit for listing 9 women, all of whom were really white. I already said we all know you find women of color attractive as well.

My separate point about America's beauty standards isn't a point about what you believe to be true. I just thought it was interesting that the list of 9 women you came up with quickly, without really thinking about it, consisted of nothing but white women. It is only relevant in that one can see how beauty ideals are affected by the subconscious.

Get over it.

I've been watching Tivos of Modern Family and while the plot's great in every show, between the blond mom and Sophia, it's almost superfluous to male viewers. Who with a penis is even following what's being said?

Vergara's basically a living Barbie doll. It's almost like she got too many genes for attractiveness - that some should have been spread around elsewhere, to those in need.

It's fun for about 30 minutes. But when you start lugging the trashbags that are 1/10 full but weigh 75 pounds, and you're covered in plaster dust and scratched all over by the lath, the fun quickly wears off.

Cruz sucks. Her profile's horrible.

But I'm with you on the clear thing. Exhibit A: Nicole Kidman. She's the classic "English beauty," which is fine. But has there ever been a less sexy actress thrown into roles that would better have been fleshed out by a woman with actual sex appeal? If the movies need white chicks to sell to the audience's subconscious tastes for white standards of beauty, there are a million other translucent actresses I'd rather see getting naked for Stanley Kubrick.
