I had an avatar for Bilmore- thjat shot of him toasting me with the beer. I can still find it for him if he wants it.

Sebastian needs an image from a John OHara book and I think Coltane should have a bottle of nair.

(Note: I deleted your double-post, as it wasn't even funny the first time. not7yS )

Good guess. Actually, I am the technologically-challenged puppetmaster. It's been rather tiring keeping up with my multitude of avatarless SPs, but I'm glad it's finally out.

He is now considerably slimmer, but still known as "Porkie", "Fatty" etc. My nickname is "Bump", as in bump-on-a-log because I am very quiet and apparently pretty dull. I think some of my aunts and uncles don't know my name because I am (still) just referred to as "our little bump". My aunt is kind of naiive and she is referred to so often as the "silly cow" that it's almost her nickname. It sounds dysfunctional and nasty, but these nicknames are all terms of endearment - you wouldn't call someone an insulting name if you didn't love him. I'm not trying to defend it, it just seems to be the way things are for British people (less so now, they seem to be getting just as flaky over there as here).

But there's a difference between saying something seemingly nasty to family or good friends, and saying it to people you don't know, or barely know. The former will know your intentions, and know you.

I used to train with a group of African-American martial artists. All very intense, very skilled, very proud people. The things we said to each other I would never say to a stranger, or accept from a stranger. We told jokes I wouldn't tell on a public bus for fear of getting assaulted or branded a racist.

All of this was tame compared to the way my family interacts. Sheesh -- Italians, we show our love by fighting.

I agree that Americans are hyper-sensitive, but contrasting interactions among the general public with those among family members is comparing apples to oranges.

1. I don't think (and never said that) Americans are hyper-sensitive. I love America and Americans. I think they're fan-tas-tic. Why else would I work my ass off and go through masses of red tape to immigrate here? I was pointing out to leagl that what she viewed as cattiness, I viewed as a hallmark of the way a particular culture interacts. Purely as an example, I used my family - because, as you may know, cultural hallmarks often show up in family interactions. It was an example, as I stated - nothing more, nothing less.

2. I do not see British behaviour as some kind of model of behaviour to be emulated. Did you see them when Diana died - there is a lot of repressed emotion over there just dying for an outlet. I was just drawing attention to what I saw as a cultural difference. There are good things to be said about American culture - and sometimes good things to be said about having a stiff upper lip.

that is all.

Ya' know, it just occurred to me yesterday, after reading some post, that, when I told you that I saw you as Maude, and you accepted that view, you might have been thinking "Maude Lebowski".

That wasn't the one.

Maybe you already knew that, but just wanted to clarify.

Fem-ale

Now, I've heard it all. How about beer that doesn't taste like piss?

LONDON, Aug. 5 — British beer-makers should brew a real ale directed at women, the chairwoman of the Campaign for Real Ale said on Tuesday. Paula Waters said the British brewing industry had become too set in its ways and the number of women trying real ale had declined. “SOMEONE IN the industry needs to lead the way by launching an all-new beer aimed at women — the world’s first Fem-ale. This will help dispel the myth that beer is strictly for the boys,” Waters said on the first day of the Great British Beer Festival in London.
CAMRA said its research showed more women would be willing to try beer if it was presented in more stylish glasses than ordinary pint pots.
“Just look at the beer drinking culture in Belgium. There is a wide range of fruity Belgian beers that are served in stylish branded glasses and you see a large number of women drinking these traditional styles of beer in cafes and bars,” Waters said.
The annual Great British Beer Festival runs from Tuesday to Saturday at London’s Olympia. Organizers expect some 45,000 visitors.

I believe you, I really do.

Just as I fully expect to wake up on November 3, 2004, pick up my Christian Science Monitor, no offense, and see the headline, "The Comeback Kid II, Gore Wins in a Landslide", with a below the fold reference to an article in the sports section detailing Mike Tyson's next tri-belt title defence, I also fully expect that you will be back.

Censorship Is Good

The Sun reports 'American Idol' champion of the civilized world Kelly Clarkson has been banned from singing the note "high C" on TV shows.

Apparently, camera crews have complained her powerful, yet oh-so pleasing, voice can damage microphones when she hits this note.

But the crews are safe for the moment – Kelly has strained her vocal cords and is trying to soothe her throat with olive oil.

Aaaaaaahhhh.

I have a problem with this line from his bio - Perhaps best known for his loveable sitcom personas, Tony Danza is indisputably one of America’s most popular performers.

Indisputably? Really?

And I don't know what WWLD's reference means, because as far as I know he always plays someone named "Tony". It did make me think What Would Latka Do?

I thought it too but stopped from commenting after looking down and seeing the crumbs from lunch still on my keyboard and a little on my pants.

That treadmill cannot come soon enough.

And speaking of that, I have tennis sneakers (four pairs), aerobics sneakers (1 pair), kick around sneakers (two pairs) and "cross trainers" (1 pair). Do I need special sneakers to walk/jog on the treadmill or will one of these eight pairs work?

WHere the HELl are you coming from?!?! THere may be things to complain about with her, but from a same-sex is sexxy perspective, I don't think her looks is one of them. I get the impression that a lot of you guys bitching and moaning about her looks couldn't get your dipsticks wet in a whore house with hundred dollar bills hanging out of your dockers' pockets.

See, I've always refrained from responding to your posts, thinking that if I didn't poke the pig I wouldn't get hit with shit. Guess I was wrong.

Reading comprehension lesson for the day: when I said I stopped from commenting after noticing my own shortcomings, I impliedly recognized that commenting would be an indication of a jealous beeyotch. Therefore, no comment, no beeyotch.

Plus, you don't have to be jealous of someone's good qualities to still point out the bad qualities. Sometimes pointing out the bad qualities is just pointing them out. Not everyone measures herself and her worth by comparison to others.

*edited to satisfy my inner timmy - everyone takes the singular - "em" will never show up in my posts.
