You could just order the hardback or paperback version of the third Stieg Larsson from Amazon.co.uk. The hardback version is under 10 pounds. (Shipping will double the price, but I find it's worth it to get my favorite British authors' new works a half-year to a year earlier.) Or if you can stand to read a Kindle, it's already available in e-book form from Amazon.com . . . .

What have you done with u know who!!!?!??!

Because "Quint Cities" never caught on?

Personally I think East Moline is a wannabe and shouldn't be part of the fab four.

Exactly, Moline is already in there. Why do they need East Moline, and if they do, why not West, South and North Moline too and make it the Octo-Cities. They could adopt the Octo-Mom as their honorary Queen. And invite Kate plus 8, except without Kate. Because that would be nine. One higher. Iykwim.

A twelve year old of my acquaintance thinks that I'm awesome because I read the first two.

I've read them all. I agree they are extremely campy. I don't think they are particularly well written, but they are good for an amusing couple of mindless hours of entertainment. You should be able to read them pretty quickly. Not worth the money for the hardcovers.

Going to a river to symbolically cleanse ones soul - That's the part that has you puzzled?

You are a better man than I.

Update

I figured if Obama could talk to Ahmenijhid I could accept my racist acquaintence's friending. It turns out he's working a promoting a rap band right now in the unique genre of Cracker Rap. It is at least amusing.

Haven't yet. I tend to watch movies for entertainment. How does it score in that column?

For some reason I just morphed the album cover from Licensed to Ill with the racist picture of Air Force One with the N number on the tail changed to N1663R.*

I am not proud of that mental image, but I wanted to put it out there so that when the cover shows up I get some Nostradamus credit.

*If only someone on the board had a father who was a pilot so they could confirm whether this has actually happened. If only.

There is a plane with the N-number N1663R -- apparently the FAA doesn't think about airplane registrations forming words as much as the state license place people do.

Fashion question . . .

As you all know, I am the very heighth of sophistication when it comes to clothing, including my outerwear. A boulevardier if you will, sporting the finest in overcoats for the colder weather, a stylish umbrella when necessary, and plastic bags to keep my shiny shoes dry.

But I am going to be in a cold, damp place for a few days over the winter and the usual gear (including the ugly-ass inclement weather gear I have now) is not going to be suitable. So I am looking for a jacket, suitable to be worn with casual clothes on city streets (I will not be camping) that will keep me warm while outside, either trekking from bar to bar or watching a sporting event, and is also waterproof or sufficiently water resistant to deal with a sustained drizzle.

Any suggestions or recommendations from the hardy yet fashion-sensible fellows who post here?

It is this sort of faux-self-deprecating nauseating mixture of smugness and folksyism that makes me weep with joy upon the realization that I never read this board. Ever.
