Posting "LOL" is never okay when it's the only thing in the post. Posting "POTY" is okay when you actually believe it. And posting "TUAOM" is always okay since it is a critique of LOL-type posts.

Sometimes men should not be chivalrous, they should just get off the damn elevator!
You could be my sock puppet. I have been quite vocal in my disdain for men who trap me on the elevator. In Dallas the custom is for men to wait and get on last (thus putting them in the front of the elevator) then wait to get out until all ladies (who have been squeezed into the back of the elevator by the late entering men) have made it out. Completely illogical. I am a fan of the LIFO method of elevator entry/exit. Call me a yankee.

I just looked at the Globe comparison re: Clay and Ruben and got to thinking. Okay, the Clay/Opie thing I can see, but do you think the Ruben/Fat Albert comparison is the best one they could come up with? I was thinking Fred "Rerun" Berry because of the hat thing.

Other than its specificity, perhaps that doesn't qualify as weird, because spooning soup away from you really makes sense when you're wearing white tie.
Yeah, I think that's just a specific description of the general "soup is spooned away from you" rule, though why that should rule out eating around the cheese is beyond me. Your white tie parties sound more fun than mine (or your host has a more messy sense of humor) if they are giving you french onion soup.

I think the flip-and-dip is gross, too (just makes me think "fatty!"), but I cite Judith Martin as my authority.

Ahhh, Rerun. That brings back bad tv memories. What was that dance troupe he was in? I remember seeing them on Mike and Merv and other bad '70's TV variety shows. Striped socks, knickers, suspenders, floppy berets. So stylish.

The segment of the population that knows who Rerun is, is probably much smaller than the segment that knows who Fat Albert is.

"Hi-hi-hi-hi!"

Edited to answer to my question: The Lockers.

Name one time you have been O.K. with someone putting LOL in a post, regardless of whether it was the only thing in the post.

Incidentally, I'm still futzing around with my avatar - anyone with an opinion on this one vs. the bouffant chick I had last, please speak up.

And thanks leagaleze for fixing the size for me so I could try it on.

I'm sure that you meant to say the segment of the population born after 1980 that knows who Rerun is is much smaller than the segment that knows who Fat Albert is. Anyone born before 1980 who is not familiar with Rerun has my disdain.

I like the other one better. Much more original.

When somebody gives me a hug and I'm ready to be released, I say "Mama, I can't breathe."

And on another topic, I can't decide if I'm more squicked out by this picture or by NotFromHere's fingers-in-the-dip acquaintances:

I thought the other one was a little creepy, but that's just me.

I think the first one was better because it's a little creepy.

No. I think we've been through this before, some of us were very sheltered.

Actually - I love both movies, but if you could get one of Madeline Kahn in Young Frankenstein - that would rock!

There's something very "Buffalo Bill"-like about that picture.
