So just go with the Carhartt then?

But I am going to be in a cold, damp place for a few days over the winter and the usual gear (including the ugly-ass inclement weather gear I have now) is not going to be suitable. So I am looking for a jacket, suitable to be worn with casual clothes on city streets (I will not be camping) that will keep me warm while outside, either trekking from bar to bar or watching a sporting event, and is also waterproof or sufficiently water resistant to deal with a sustained drizzle.

Any suggestions or recommendations from the hardy yet fashion-sensible fellows who post here?

Well, it sounds like you're going to watch soccer, so you might as well dress like a girl (hi RT!).

I've heard these are nice. Manchester U?

NIce color, and it would flatter my figure, but doesn't look sufficiently water resistant. Also seems likely to show the Guinness stains. I'll just put you down as another Carhartt.

It's actually kind of amusing. It held my attention pretty well, which isn't easy for movies to do these days.

I have that coat in aubergine, which colour hides the stains. If you spray it down with the Gore-tex spray it will make it sort of water resistant as well. Chicks dig it as well due to its unisexual functionality.

Go.

It.

If you really want to over compensate, I'd suggest a camo hunting coat.

And it looks great when you step out of that little red sports car. Did you get the Mazda?

First I would ask Flower, then I would ask RT's sis.

I was going to suggest a Barbour coat with fuzzy lining, but Carhartt is more my new, unchic, rural style. So you can put me down as one of those, too.

Trucker cap, or no -- too much?

Keep in mind that I have to hide the flaming homosexuality that, as GGG so perceptively points out, makes me enjoy watching soccer and driving a Japanese car.

Start by ditching the car:

Maybe go with the Barbour hat/Carhartt coat combo. I bought a Barbour bucket hat on ebay for, like, $20 and it's the BEST. Better than an umbrella because your hands are free, and keeps your head warm at the same time!

I am still queasy from the combination Garrison Keillor/International Male affectation that Ironweed inexplicably decided would assist him in getting coat advice. But apparently I voted Carhartt.

why not wear a sweatshirt there, then when he gets there go to a crowded bar and steal a jacket from a distracted drunk guy? that way you get something local.

Not a bad idea. Can you tell if these are waterproof?
