Also, I think it's interesting that your question to raouaouaoaoaul seemed premised on the idea that he would be more comfortable with a same-sex doctor than with an opposite-sex doctor, when you are more comfortable with an opposite-sex doctor.
I was uncomfortable about the fact that she would have to examine me at some point because every doc in the practice has to because you never know who will be on call when the bubble bursts. Believe me, when the time came and they sent a woman nurse in to "check my dilation" she was sent packing so it is not a "women should be nurses" thing either. Like I said, my dentist is female and I am okay with that.

Actually, I asked the question because I wondered if there were men out there who, like me, wanted the physician touching their privates to be the same sex as someone who they would normally permit to do so.

why must you constantly and consistently point out that you have a family? sheesh.

So this is a homophobia sort of thing? Holy shit.

Sorry. I think the idea of being uncomfortable with a woman doctor is a bit unusual; many women seem to prefer female gynecologists because they think they know the equipment better and can be more empathetic. I don't have a strong gender preference because I've had great male gynos and mediocre female gynos, but the only truly awful experiences I've had have been with male gynos, and the only condescending asshole doctors I've dealt with in my life have been men, too. So, since a condescending or unsympathetic gynecologist is about the most odious creature on earth, if I don't have anything else to go on (such as a personal reference or another doctor's referral), if I need a new gyno (which seems to happen every year or two), I look for a woman a few years out of her residency who has joined a long-standing practice.

And my current gyno is a very hot asian woman. Grrowwll.

It is not any sort of homophobia thing. I have many gay or lesbian friends and have never had an issue with that. I have just always felt more comfortable with a male physician in instances where I might be exposed or touched in a private area. That does not make me homophobic.

Sheesh, it ain't like I think a doc, male or female, is going to take liberties with me. I just feel more comfortable being naked around men if I absolutely must be naked.

Maybe you're just used to the caring and effort provided by your male gynecologist. Like this one:

A Milpitas doctor has lost his medical license after charges of sexual misconduct and negligence. The state Medical Board says Doctor Oscar Nunez dimmed the lights in his examining room, turned on some soft music and conducted a sexually inappropriate examination of a 27-year-old woman.

I meant it literally. Fear or aversion to someone of the same sex touching you. I'm not saying that you're harrassing gay and lesbians. I don't think I've ever heard of that before.

Dissent. First you start with being naked around them, then you are showering with them and the next thing you know you are pinned to a sophomore named Chip.

Well, I have always felt a bit uncomfortable around women. And I definitely am more at ease hugging a man than a woman. You may be on to something. Most likely my mother's fault as she is the same exact way.

I guess I should go home now and drink beer and watch hockey and try to forget about all of it.

I have not yet had the Dr. Jellyfinger experience. I am not sure I would feel comfortable with either gender, although the right music may help me get in the mood. If it's a matter of equipment familiarity, perhaps I should look for a gay male dr. Can this be searched?

It appears they are not related. "Penetrate" comes from penetro/penetrare - [to put into; to pass through or into, to penetrate]; while "penis" comes from (who would have guessed) penis - [a tail]. Young Latin students often titter at learning the word pinus, which means pine tree and is a poetic trope for anything made of pine. But no relation. There's a famous passage in Pliny the Elder's eyewitness account of the Vesuvius eruption of 79 C.E. in which he likens the cloud to a pinus, but anyone who's been to Tuscany or Umbria knows that Italian pines look more like mushrooms (and therefore mushroom clouds) than American species, which look somewhat more like a penis.

The analogy to a tail breaks down in the more poetical naming of the vagina/vaginae (pronounced "wa-gee-nah" in Classical pronunciation, for those of you into getting your dirty talk exactly right), which is the word for sheath or scabbard --- home base for the mighty sword, as it were.

It would have been better if you had copied all that text and pasted it in the message as your own prose. I think TM would have been fooled and he likely would not have penskeed you.

Thanks, Atticus.

I cannot believe you took her question before mine.

I would not have thought you'd subject me to public humiliation like that.

(Hey thanks!)

I had a lesbian doctor when I first moved here. I didn't think she wanted me (surprise!) and she seemed totally competent, but it made me laugh that in trying to avoid the men I ended up with someone who likes women anyway.
