The odds are, well, whatever -- ridiculous. Not sure there's any significant difference between 50-1 and 100-1 -- a 2% chance of winning versus 1%? What's the margin of error there? It's like the 100-point wine scale, except increased to 1000 points. What's the diff between a 94 and a 96 point wine?

I don't see much chance of winning, either, but a reasonable likelihood of making the knockouts, then a match against one of Germany, Ghana or Serbia--which leaves a decent shot--if USA are playing at all well--of making the quarters. Which about matches both the ranking and the odds.

eta: Which would match the best result since 1930, and should be considered a fairly successful cup for USA.

A scam involving hot Latina young ladies who ask to use your computer at the airport could totally work. Asking to borrow your iTunes to set up your new iPod touch, which I do t think works, is not the way to go though.

For a 94 point wine, the winemaker swallows. For 96 points, Parker gets to come on his/her face. You really don't want to know what goes into a 100 point ranking.

You refuse to consider how they'd fare against France/Mexico/Argentina/Greece in the quarters?

I don't want to get Sidd's hopes up by not assuming a loss in the quarters.

If the US makes it out of group, it'll most likely play Germany. I doubt the US will place higher than England (though all of England's injuries may help), and I doubt Germany will place lower than Ghana or Serbia. Though Ghana was a surprise last time around, and maybe that style will work against Germany.

Beating Germany will be tough. The US left with pride intact in 2002, but with a loss to Germany.

Personally, I'm a little concerned about Slovenia. No, seriously. Their defense has been amazing.

Anyway. Is it tomorrow yet? And how many HD games can my TiVo hold?

First, no one seriously has their hopes up:
Quote:

2010 FIFA WORLD CUP - GROUP C

ENGLAND 1-3
USA 4-1
SLOVENIA 11-1
ALGERIA 21-1
As for the difference between 50-1 and 100-1, there is none in a realistic sense because no team above 20-1 has a chance of winning at all, but if the fluke were to happen, the difference is a 2x return on investment, so go for the $1,000 win on a $10 bet rather than the mere $500.

As for me, I have decided to take a flyer on the Dutch at 10-1, and otherwise bet individual games. Tomorrow, the South Africans against Mexico (tie is a push) and the French against Uruguay (lose the tie).

There is only one Ohio school in the big ten, and it's membership is nowhere near as embarassing as the presence of the single Wisconsin school.

Also those dissing Goldie Gopher can suck it.

Damn close... No airbrushing or mood lighting there, and not even any make-up and she's still perfect (I have a thing for brunettes as my history seems to have involved a disproportionate percentage of blondes... some even real).

Go back, hang out in the coffee shop and read a book.

I miss very little about working for someone else in a firm, but the Acela rides on mornings to NY I do miss. It was so pleasant in that bar/coffee car. So immaculately air-conditioned and, if you got an early one, almost entirely free of humanity.
