Does it taste like meat? I have been a veggie for over 20 years now and really don't crave meat (at least not the dead kind ;) ) so I have never tried substituting with any of those tofu-burgers. I appreciate the tip though, maybe I can get the hubby to eat something like that - I don't think I have ever met someone who is more of a carnivore than my hubby and I worry about all of that meat he eats especially when he generally despises all veggies (I keep trying to tell him that potatoes don't really count).

If anyone is interested, I decided it was appropriate to express my concerns about the article yesterday to the editor of the organization. I explained I felt that Smith misrepresented her intentions in conducting her interviews and also, misrepresented what she was told in the final product.

I did this not so much because I cared about the article, as I said to them it was just a puff piece about two bulletin boards, but rather, because they have someone running around who considers what she did fair minded reporting. Much to my surprise they did actually respond.

They offered me the opportunity to write a letter which they would happily publish (though of course it would have to be under my real name.) I explained I really didn't feel the need, but rather, I wanted them to be aware of what could be a very serious problem with one of their reporters.

They said they would look into it. We shall see whether they actually do this.

Every couple of years I try to stop drinking diet coke. I always end up falling off the wagon. The last time I tried to give it up, coke's stock prices plummeted.

I've taken to drinking at least two forty four ounce glasses of water a day. Probably more than that.

Whoa! This seems a little jarring. I know that you and leagleaze are both admnstrators here, and that this is probably a bit of repartee, and probably is intended to have a humorous effect. But still, it could easily be misintepreted as a verbal slap in the face. I enjoy irreverent humor as much as the next guy, but let's be careful about the kind of impressions we might be giving to others, particularly those who might be just visiting.

Speaking of visitors, "Hi" to all of you out there lurking! ("Lurking" is a term we use to decribe those who read, but do not post.) I know some of you have gotten just a terrible impression of us from that article portraying us all as pottymouths, but please do not let a few bad apples spoil the bunch. many of us are capable of carrying on quite civilized conversations. The cutlets have become the OM's favorite food, and he's been a vegetarian since '89. My biggest concern in managing the OM's diet is ensuring he has enough protein, so I depend on these, burgers, sausages, etc. What do you use for protein?

Oh dear. For those of you out there lurking, please understand that, as far as I can tell, this is just the type of tongue-in-cheek irreverence that is part and parcel of life on this internet chat board. Please, please do not think that this is a place where we are consumed with trivial spats and name-calling. It is a community like any other. Some of the humor is a bit ribald for my taste, but that is just one tiny aspect of this board. It is a diverse and fun community and many of us have actually become friends IRL. (That is internet shorthand for "In Real Life," because the people on these boards often seem like they are imaginary - like this is not real life, although we of course all know that it really is real, just a different type of real! Not better or worse. Just different!)
