My mom says that she and a few other women caused a minor scandal at their work in the mid to late sixties when they started wearing trousers to work. She says that it was practically unheard of at the time, though trousers were much more pratical in the labs they were working in.

The folks at amlaw were concerned that we have attacked their reporter's honesty, I told them that I would make it clear it was my opinion, and that I had been careful to use words like feel and believe. They disagreed, felt we didn't divide up the two well. I appreciate that, though I am not sure I agree. Still, I want to be fair, so: Everything I have said about the article and Ms. Smith has been my opinion.

Now, in an email exchange I learned some more information, which is the second purpose of this post.

In his email expressing his concern the person felt we could have disagreed with the article without attacking the integrity of Ms. Smith. I understand why he feels this way, but I disagree. I disagree because it is my opinion that it is the integrity of the story and the reporting that is lacking.

This person said he is the one who decided to focus on West (something I don't think particularly bothered any of us) and boil it down to the cursing (which is I believe the meat of the problem here.) You should also know he told me that he felt our reasons were childish and petty, which is why he chose to boil them down to cursing. Or at least that is how I interpreted what he said to me.

More's the pity that this is the basis for our relationship with this news organization. We could have had a useful and mutually beneficial relationship. What a shame.

You know, one of the things that I hate the most about being a lawyer is that it takes the fun out of simple entertainment. If he shot the guy in Reno, what's he doing in a California state prison? Obviously he did something in California too, but what? Did he do time for the shooting too? Did he get caught for the shooting in Nevada? When he gets out of Folsom, will he then have to serve time for the shooting?

All I know is that it's going to be a long time before he's moving farther down the line.

Her name was on the byline, she's the only person that we have had any contact with, and we had no reason at all to assume that she did not write the story. Either she is a shitty reporter who didn't give both sides to the story, or the publication is a shitty publication that wastes their reporters' time by sending them after stories that they're not going to publish anyway. If he's boiling down the story and wants to deflect the ire from his reporter, he should have fucking put his name on the byline.

I don't know, but I do know that I am not anyone's sock. I was also registered at the "old board" but never said much. I watched this new one for a little while and finally registered because it looked like fun to join in the fray. I have never been JustForFun or anyone else.:)

This is a chemical impossibility. One gram of ethyl alcohol yields 7 calories of energy when metabolized by the body. That converts to about 100 calories per drink equivalent (a 12 oz. 4% beer, 5 oz. glass of wine, or 1.25 oz. shot) solely from the alcohol and not considering the calories from other components of the beverage (residual sugars or grains in beers and wines, for example). Thus, one cannot physically create a 7.5% 12 oz. beer with only 110 calories. If Bud Ice Light is 110 calories, it cannot be more than about 4.5% alcohol. I can see why some people (particularly those who are older and less tech-savvy) might jump to the conclusion that because this is an internet chat board, the users must be younger, but I can attest that there are a fair number of partner types around these parts. Maybe if they had understood that we here are his target audience, and not school children, they might have been less patronizing.

sadly enough, i have wondered the exact same thing. i finally decided that he was in prison for something else but mentioned the shooting in reno because it was the worst crime that he ever did but for some unknown reason he got away with. i guess the real explaination is that there aren't many recognizable two syllable town or city names in california - i guess that barstow or needles could work, but reno does sound cooler.

of course, i also have checked to see if there was another reno in california before (if there is it wasn't on my map) so maybe i just take song lyrics too seriously.
