I would be remiss for not posting my favorite song this year, as I have for the last 73 years. Behind only the Vince Guarldi/Charlie Brown Christmas album, especially "Christmastime is Here."

Less has Shane MacGowan and Kirsty MacColl's "Fairytale of New York" (and a fine Christmas song it is), and I have "The Christians and the Pagans." Enjoy.

His mom jumped up and said, "The pies are burning," and she hit the kitchen,
And it was Jane who spoke, she said, "It's true, your cousin's not a Christian,"
"But we love trees, we love the snow, the friends we have, the world we share,
And you find magic from your God, and we find magic everywhere."

So the Christians and the Pagans sat together at the table,
Finding faith and common ground the best that they were able,
And where does magic come from, I think magic's in the learning,
Cause now when Christians sit with Pagans only pumpkin pies are burning.

When Amber tried to do the dishes, her aunt said, "Really, no, don't bother."
Amber's uncle saw how Amber looked like Tim and like her father.
He thought about his brother, how they hadn't spoken in a year,
He thought he'd call him up and say, "It's Christmas and your daughter's here."
He thought of fathers, sons and brothers, saw his own son tug his sleeve, saying,
"Can I be a Pagan?" Dad said, "We'll discuss it when they leave,"

So the Christians and the Pagans sat together at the table,
Finding faith and common ground the best that they were able,
Lighting trees in darkness, learning new ways from the old, and
Making sense of history and drawing warmth out of the cold.

Don't see it unless you want to be hit over the head with the "America is bad, bad, bad" message. I am already in the "America is pretty bad" camp and about as far left as one can possibly get without going insane (in my head, if not in my day-to-day life), and I was like, enough with the America is bad message.

This post is more entertainment than politics - that is why I posted it here and not on the PB.

What booze do you like best with eggnog? I'm serving some tonight to quench the thirsts of my tree-trimming guest(s), and I've been using vodka in the past (mainly because that's what I've had on hand).

Tonight, I have advance warning and desire for tastier stuff. Any suggestions and/or old family recipies that don't involve making the egg nog from scratch?

All the highly regarded recipes I have experienced include brandy & dark rum. A weird Texas variant used peach schnapps as well.

I always think of egg nog as being equal parts dark rum and brandy mixed with gracery store egg nog in a carton. But I would think brandy would work on it's own.

Also try hot cocoa and peppermint schnapps.

Hot cider is yummy with dark rum in it too.

I hate Duke, but I really wish I had some reason to like them. It would be easier if I were a Duke fan.

Besides, for a number one team, they're having a lot of trouble with with a number of teams.
