beer
Quote:
In fact, my freshman year roomate, who entered with enough AP and whatever other college course credits to be a junior, discovered beer for the first time and would drink a CASE (no exaggeration) of this piss EVERY DAY. All he had to do was pass the next class up (junior level) in like 5 different courses and he would have been a year from graduating. Instead, he ended up selling everything he owned to buy beer and would hang out on the floor waiting for people to come back from class so he could play Spit or Asshole or whatever card game. Failed out after the first year. Thurgreed(and he was the only alcoholic roomate I had you vicious bastards)Marshall |

Canadian beer
Just because it is sort of topical (and educational), I give you the latest (Canadian) patriotic offering from Molson that landed in my in-box this afternoon. It made me homesick.

Anyone seen a good movie recently? I'm ready to go the movies for the first time in a while, and I'd like some recommendations.
Leinenkugel's gets my thumbs-up. I even toured the brewery, back in the day. I was probably one of the few people to bicycle across several state lines to get there. |

Leinie's aren't bad. First had them in Minnesota, found them at a beer store in Jersey, and was shocked to find a Leinie's brew pub outside of the Diamondbacks stadium. Another favorite from HS was Heffenreffer aka Green Monsters. They (and Ballentine) had the puzzle caps, but you usually couldn't see straight enough to read them. Anne Trivia tidbit: the original Sam Adams Brewery in Boston is located in the old Heffenreffer brewery. |

It's basically just croquet. The twist is that you must keep your beer on your person at all times when playing, including when whacking the ball with your mallet. Leads to both drunkeness and creative beer holding technique. |

They do some nice seasonal brews. Much better than Old Style, which for some reason people here (Cubs fans, mainly) consider a semi-local delicacy... Of the local beers, I prefer the offerings from Goose Island Brewery. Oh, the swill I drank in HS and college. Coming from a semi-rural area, when I was at home we'd spend time cruising around drinking pretty much anything we could get, including RWB, Stag, generic, Hamms, PBR, Busch, you name it... BTW, I've had Wisconsin Club, and it is NAS-TY!! Used to be like $4 a CASE... aftertaste of raw sewage. |
I'm guessng old Prince Akala didn't look closely enough at LawTalkers records.
Just saying...we have neither good records, nor credentials, nor, you know, money. It is nice to be called President/CEO. It makes me feel warm and fuzzy. (I think these are my favorite scam emails.) And oh, I'll be exporting you all forthwith! CHIEF AUDITOR-NNPC ATTENTION:THE PRESIDENT/CEO, My name is PRINCE. JENKINS AKALA . I have taken enough time to study your personal and business profile through business enquiry. And I am very much impressed by your good records and credentials. ... This sum of US $35M which my other two colleagues and I have discovered are from over-invoicing and inflated prices. ...We wish to use your facilities for this purpose. Your role is to provide your bank account (preferably your company's account) where we can transfer the funds at once. and I have agreed that you will receive 30% of the total sum ... which may include investment in your country according to your guide, and exportation of your products to Nigeria according to market viability. ... Yours Sincerely, PRINCE. JENKINS AKALA. |
Spontaneous Mutual Insomnia
Has this ever happened to you? You are in bed. You cannot sleep. Neither can the person who is supposed to be sleeping next to you. It's not that one of you cannot sleep and the tossing and turning is keeping the other awake. No. It is - spontaneous mutual insomnia.
We tried watching a really bad movie about women in prison. We had sex. We watched some of Bull Durham. We had sex again. We played name that tune. Finally, at 3:30, we got up, got dressed, and went out for waffles. Then at 5:00 am, sleep. If only the alarm had not then gone off at 7:00. . . |

There are good movies about women in prison? I frequently have insomnia, so if the person with whom I am sleeping has it it wouldn't be all that unusual for us both to have it. I've learned, when I am having it on my own to get out of bed so I don't disturb the other person, but sometimes, it seems to disturb them when I do that. What do people do when they have insomnia and the other person is able to sleep? |

TV can work too, but that usually takes longer than reading. Of course occasionally the books keep me up if I'm really into them, but that is fairly rare. Oh, and, if nothing else works, sex (if companion in bed) or erotica plus vibrator (if alone) can get me ready for sleep... |

I am a light sleeper, so if he wakes up and turns on his light to read or the tv, we can have a mutherfucking problem. Sometimes he is able to and it is fine, sometimes, he goes to the living room, and sometimes, he just decides 5 am is the perfect time to head to the office to get a jump on the day. When I am laying awake and he is asleep, I decorate random rooms in my head. I figure out the layout, style, colors, fabrics, furniture. It relaxes me, though not as much as notcase's technique. If that doesn't do it, a tylenol pm or benadryl takes the edge off. Edited to add: damn, when did I get so freakin old? |
