So I'm on board with GGG, fuck the Teachers' Unions and the idiot government officials that negotiated the deal and picked stupid fucking lawyers just because they contributed to the campaign.

Ever use one of those provisions to seize vested pension benefits?

I like the place where they cite to our board in the study.

WNYC Radio is reporting that Komen is going to restore funding to PP. Interesting.

given that you are about the most closed minded person I've ever read, I think this board would provide strong support.

Someone apparently realized they're going to lose a lot more money from people who are no longer going to contribute than they might gain from pro-life people who wouldn't contribute if they gave grants to PP.

Bloomberg's going to give his money anyway, so it seems like PP is going to come out pretty well financially from this whole thing.
I hope the thought of it makes Nancy Brinker sick.

Read in the NYTimes today that John Raffaelli, a lobbyist on the Komen board who said that the changes to the grant process were specifically intended to end Komen's relationship with Planned Parenthood, said he was "bitterly disappointed" that PP was using the issue to raise money.

Fuck him. EOM.*

*Except, a smaller f you to the head of PP, who said that the mass response to this action was a great demonstration of "women supporting women." No, actually, it was "people" supporting women. A lot of men wrote to Komen and said we would no longer give if this was their reaction to it. And Bloomberg stepped up to the plate in very impressive fashion.

It only took them a few days to wreck their brand.

eta: They're apologizing for wrecking their own image, not for taking away the funding for medical care that people need. "We want to apologize for recent decisions that cast doubt upon our commitment to our mission of saving women’s lives."

If you're going to be a feminist male, you've got to let go of these things and realize it's not the credit that matters. Yeah Sisterhood!

At least, I know that line was successful for me back in the day.

Really true. I know people who aren't even particularly pro-choice who were turned off. I'm betting participation in their walks really drops off.

I'm just hoping it picks up in some for some of the other organizations fighting cancer.

Mr. Rafaelli's opinion aside, this would be the time for them to amp up the fundraising efforts.

You can always make strides against breast cancer with the American Cancer Society.

I'm thinking of supporting Komen now by picking up a few of these for the women in my life. And maybe one for Sidd, too.

It's not the credit I care about, but the example. More men might stand up for women in situations such as this, if they knew that more men already did so.

Because of shit like that, and some of the other information about Komen that's coming out, this stupid decision on Planned Parenthood is going to hurt them badly for years to come.

Put differently -- because of this episode, a lot of people who liked the foundation have learned things about it that they decidedly do not like.
