Martini Fight!!!

Where's Cheval, he's the master of this one.

In honor of all of our favorite 'tini timmies, I once again post james bond's vodka martini, sometimes called the Vesper in honor of Vesper Lind, as specified in Casino Royale:

"A dry Martini," he said. "One. In a deep champagne goblet."

"Oui, Monsieur."

"Just a moment. Three measures of Gordon's, one of vodka, half a measure of Kina Lillet. Shake it very well until it's ice-cold, then add a large slice of lemon-peel. Got it?"

Um, there's this concept that they developed awhile back called "cut and paste." Takes a lot of the pain in the ass factor away, and makes retyping unnecessary.

K Street

Did anyone else catch the new HBO series K Street last night? It was... weird. But good weird. It was very difficult to separate out reality and fiction, which I think is the point. More than half the show was James Carvel giving (apparently real) debate prep to Howard Dean in preparation for the (real) debate last week in Baltimore, but then there was this whole plot line as well. Very confusing, but some nice shots of the people and places in DC. Carvel is a good actor in the sense it was difficult to separate out when he was doing something real and when it was part of the fiction.

I also caught Carnivale (it was a night to veg), which was excellent if equally weird. Lots of good versus evil and who is which. I can see being sucked into it. I can also see it being cancelled after three episodes.

the real answer is that Ben realized that JHo is not the only woman who fucks differntly than Gwyneth. d that he had access to these chicks. Basically, he snapped out of his pussy haze long enough to realize that JHo wasnt an aberration, but there were hundreds of chicks willing to fuck him, and they would let him play with strippers and matt but I have said this from the beginning.

I bet that if you looked, you would find subtle variations in the lyrics on different sites, suggesting that said key combinations were not in fact employed. Though I haven't looked, and would rather recycle dental floss than pore over pages and pages of lyrics for "Don't Stop Believin'."

K Street

I enjoyed K Street. It reminded me of the War Room, but this is of course blending fact and fiction. The production is interesting since they write and shoot it every week. I wonder if they will be able to make in engaging over thirteen weeks or however long the series is.

As for Carnivale, blech. I don't understand how a show with so many dramatic elements could be so dull. Exciting things happened in the most boring ways.

Bilmore, I'm inviting you to explain your needless name calling. I made a little joke, based on yours and Wonk's slow-paced and nostalgic posting about alcoholic drinks. I perceived that joke to be harmless, but perhaps there is some sensitivity to Bartles-and-Jamesianism that I am missing?

BTW "booze-fueled" and "a round of white russians" don't seem to be consistent. Is she that much of a lightweight? I assumed an ass like that could hold a lot of liquor.

Billmore,

I meant my own words were slop. I'd have to have shit for brains to suggest the Folsom Prison Blues was slop. Its one of the very first rock songs and the best example of the murder ballad" ever written. The song contains zero profanity and almost no violent imagery, yet is angrier than any piece of gangsta rap ever penned. Next to Dylan's "Idiot Wind" it might just be the most venom filled tune in country/folk/rock history.

You'd be made of stone if you didn't get all misty over losing Johnny Cash. He's a Sinatra/Stones level icon.

S(that said, it ain't shocking that he's dead - he's looked dead for about a decade)D

Yes, Olympia wasn't bad as long as it was really cold. If you took the tour (and at Rainier) they usually let you drink beer as long as you wanted. Plus they were liberal about carding.
But sigh - it is a think of the past. It gained some recognition in the mid to late 90's with some excellent product placement in a movie I can't currently remember. Here is your history...

The original Tumwater brewery was started in 1896 by Leopold Schmidt who, attracted by the artesian wells in the area, sold his brewery in Butte, Mont., and started a company (initially named Capital Brewing Co.) that would eventually have five breweries. After the end of Prohibition, Olympia Brewing Company built a new brewery nearby. Olympia brewing added a new brewhouse in 1960, bought Hamm's brewery in 1975, and merged with Lone Star in 1976.

Pabst bought Olympia in 1983. The Tumwater brewery seemed to get a new lease on life in 1999 with the demise of Stroh Brewing Co. and its Rainier brewery in Seattle. Stroh sold Rainier and other brands to Pabst Brewing Co. Pabst then sold the Tumwater brewery to Miller. Miller is closing the 106 year old Tumwater brewery in 2003. With the closing of Rainier in Seattle, Blitz-Weinhard in Portland and now Miller in Tumwater, the Pacific Northwest has lost all its old regional breweries. That leaves the Redhook Ale Brewery, a microbrewery started in the early 1980's, the largest in the state of Washington.
Olympia Beer is now brewed by Pabst Brewing Company in San Antonio Texas.

With Cash dead, we'll never know the answer to the eternal question of how the narrator wound up in a California DOC clink when he shot a man in Reno. We'll all have to come up with our own explanations now.

Personally, I'm going with the law school hypo about dual venue when the bullet crosses state lines.

Oh no, say it ain't so. First Bennifer calls it off and now this? I'm going to have to start watching reality TV for entertainment now.

Heard a story on NPR this weekend that was playing excerpts of Ah-nold speeches and I couldn't get the visual image of the Terminator out of my head. "Vote for me, or I'll be back".

Question

I just bought an enormous 16 ounce bag of Swedish Fish. On the bag, in huge red letters, it reads "2 oz FREE!". This is not right.

Didn't I pay for all 16 oz. Perhaps I paid less per ounce than I might have prior, but it's not like there's really 2 ounces in there that I didn't pay for...

This is twisting my brain.

On another note, why are said fish Swedish?
