Friday night, actually. I don't really like matinees to begin with. But the group who stood up, while they didn't eat chips and drink sodas, were pretty rude. One of them started humming loudly during one of the arias. (he got hushed up pretty quick).

I think that is an interesting statement. I have no wish to be famous at all. I hate being on camera, can't stand when it is forced on me, and never really feel the need to have all eyes on me when I walk in a room.

All the more irritating because I am on camera all the time, which I repeat I cannot stand, and frequently speaking in front of large groups, which is fine but hardly fame inducing.

I don't want to be famous, I don't need the grief that seems to come along with it in our society. It is too much to pay, too much loss of privacy, too much of people disecting your life.

Just not for me.

I would rather be rich than famous. But rich is still pretty low on the list of things I want to do. Fame is a burden, from what I hear.

I guess it depends on what you mean by being famous. I am not as narcissistic as my actor friends, so I do not crave recognition and acceptance from the general public. I do not want to be world-wide famous-famous, but I have no problem being photographed or filmed or being recognized places.

Being recognized used to make me incredibly uncomfortable, now I am used to hearing people saying just out of earshot "That's Even Odds, she . . . " as I walk through a room for whatever it happens to be.

The hardest part of being recognized by people you do not know is trying to place them in context when you meet them or having to satisfy their "tell me how I know you!" aggressiveness.

That's sort of the way I feel. I do the best I can at work I enjoy. I know it has value for my employer and for me. If something I write or do has a greater impact than that, so be it. The one thing I know for sure is that if I spend my time trying to do something "important," I'll never have the time to actually do it.

The Devils play boring hockey, that's why I hate them - not because of where they play (although they have sucky fans). That's more or less how I feel about fame. I don't want to be famous for being famous. What's the point? I don't crave attention, and certainly don't want to have a camera in my face at all times. On the other hand, if I accomplish something worthwhile (perhaps with a capital W), then the attendant fame would not be unwelcome. Of course, I suppose that's a different type of fame, more of the type that Even Odds talks about (E/O, are you the best hitter that ever lived?)--people know who you are because you've accomplished something they consider worthwhile, not because you happened to get turned down by a gold-digger on for love or money.
