We did, but perhaps dtb is smart enough not to visit the PB, where that discussion took place.

All I know about patents is that one should not ask me. Or Hank.

Shea? You can't go there anymore. And Francis, with his FIFO-beer-drinking and frou-frou accessories, is clearly the sort of anal-retentive narcissist that makes for a perfect Yankees fan. Wait - was that counterproductive?

But the all-new Bailout Field is in full effect and I am now the proud owner of a quarter share in some abbreviated season ticket plan that gets me one ass cheek on a seat for two and a half games. And it only cost me $799.95!

Let's go Mets!

Fuck them, actually. My real team won a meaningless game today, which I didn't get to watch, but just reading the match report and watching highlights online made me feel happier than when the Mets last won . . . err, something worth winning, which I believe has not happened in some time.

The weird thing about that whole story is that Sabathia is super rich, just got richer, and still voluntarily chooses to live in Vallejo, California. WTF? I think he can buy the city Vallejo right now with the current contract.

Maybe so, but he still makes only slightly more per hour than the Vallejo fire captains.

I guess RT's busy, but http://www.urbandictionary.com suggests "Toaster: noun (plural Toasters) An ethnic slur denoting a Cylon, usually a Centurion, as they resemble 'walking chrome toasters' but can also applied to any other kind of Cylon."

Why I know this when I've never seen an episode of (the new) Battlestar Gallactica, I have no idea.

Purely anecdotal, but I've seen a whole lot of both Sabathia and Johan Santana. Santana is an A+ (man was I happy when he left the AL Central). Sabathia is a B/B+. I had no feelings when he was traded out of the AL Central. He's a good pitcher, but he's not a great pitcher. Then again, like you said, who cares about how much money your team is paying him as long as your team can afford him (and it's not preventing you from adding another critical piece to the puzzle).

I have a personal standing order that I don't pay to go to sporting events. There are exceptions, but I usually abide by it. Either the firm pays, or a friend/vendor's company pays. There are too many free tickets out there.

Right on! I have a personal standing order that I don't pay for sex, directly or indirectly, although there are exceptions, eg: premium value to be had.

ETA: on a different, for my whole career in the game, I had a standing policy that I didn't enter the Kona lottery. If I was going to toe that line it was with my big boy speedo strapped on. However I am starting to consider a break in that long standing ne'er breached policy. Does this make me a puss?

Was there really ever a chance of you qualifying for Kona? It's nearly impossible.

Have I been on ignore all of these years?

True story: Out of 5 seasons where I focused on Kona, I qualified twice, missed qualifying two other times by a total time of 00:04:03. And one year, didn't get so close (I think I was about 30 minutes off the last spot in one of my IM Qs and in the other I blew up-slowest IM ever, 11:40something).

So, yes, there was a chance. I used to think it was a once and future chance, but I am starting to doubt my future, and thus lottery thought.

I don't remember you saying you actually qualified. Or maybe when you did, I was ignorant of Ironman itself? I probably didn't know what qualifying meant when you initially posted it since I didn't really get into triathlons until 2007.

I am grateful to IM Canada for providing me a platform that was ideal for my strengths. It's why Canada remains my second favourite county (which I think I have posted) and second choice to defect to.

Because I'm not spending that kind of money on tickets and then beer and food at The Stadium. When I go, I usually get firm seats. And the price of seats has risen because they can sell them for so much to companies. Therefore, I am part of the problem.

I guess I was asking with the financial crisis if firms and companies there might reconsider buying tickets.

the big 3 fallout will be fewer companies buying them here. Hell, i heard the PGA may even get hit with the pull out of sponsorship etc.

Let's not be crazy. Sabathia is a great pitcher. Santana is a fantastic pitcher. If I had to choose between them if they had both become available last year I would have gone with Santana, no question.

Santana has a much better ERA since 2005 (about 2.90) than Sabathia (3.29), so there's no doubt he's a better pitcher. His win/loss record is better too with probably less run support (66-33 to 63-39). But Sabathia is an ace and we need an ace. I just hope he works just as hard in a non-contract year as he did this past season.

Ah. I see. My bad.

I think fewer people are renewing seasons tickets because prices have jumped so much, but our firm is picking up our seats again and I haven't heard the Yankees complaining about selling tickets yet. I would imagine that some of the banks will give up their boxes, but I think there's always someone else ready to step in and buy (although, you would think that if that were the case, they'd cost even more than they do now).

I'd be surprised if any of them that still exist will. BofA and JPM might not keep all of the boxes they've inherited thru acquisitions, but I don't think that's quite the same thing as Citi not renewing. And aren't there a LOT more boxes at the new stadia?

Did Lehman list it's box/season tickets as an asset?
