Isn't it nice how this problem has developed just in time to assuage womens' guilt about sending their kids to day care? It's practically a necessity. Happily, this is also an argument for having more than one household pet during a child's early years. Yay dogs!

Edited to add, and on the other hand, the research cited by NotFromHere is now available to make women who've had c-sections feel bad. WTG science!

It is amazing... Of our two, the oldest Little Finger had milk and egg allergies until he was 2. We kept him away from the stuff as much as possible, and by then he had outgrown them. Now he's fine.

Our youngest, on the other hand, is currently allergic to just about everything. The current list is milk, eggs, wheat and peanuts. Peanuts is the most potentially severe, but we don't know how bad it is because we only found out about that one through an allergist. Because of this we keep epinephrine (sp?) handy just in case. Odds are he'll outgrow the first three, but you never outgrow peanut allergies.

Don't feel bad for him, he's really a happy little kid, and while I think a lot of the stuff he has to eat is horrible, he doesn't know any better so it's fine to him.

Makes the grocery shopping interesting. Really have to read labels and learn your chemicals. On the bright side, all the health food aisle products in the cart balances my junk food well...

For example, if you were mortally wounded, say nearly decapitated by a flying stop sign, and you had enough life in you both to think about what you wanted your last words to be and to express them, and you were to say to me, or even better, to write -- because the injury would of course render you unable to speak, and maybe I would have one of those small dry erase boards handy for just such a purpose -- "it's only a flesh wound," now, that would be a funny use of a Monty Python quote.

Think about it.
Well I didn't start out to be a Thrasher tribute sock. But the opportunity presented itself and I thought I would ride that bandwagon until ncs rained on my party. So I guess I'll just have to be the one people talk about behind my back (and to my face) because I'm not funny enough.

With your tutelage, I'm sure that I can improve. Perhaps someday I'll be an RP tribute sock.

Oh don't worry about it. Fortunately it has gotten to be less of a problem as I got older. It isn't so bad now. When I was young though it was horrific.

The alcohol seems to work well for the people around me who seem to be much more upset about it than I. I wonder sometimes if it is that it isn't as bad, or I am used to it or what. Probably both.

Hey, at least you can tell your friends that it is all because you keep your house too clean! Better than the kid having squalor-induced ailments. I really wonder how any kid makes it through adolescence without eating tons of pb&j sandwiches. He'll never win at Big Brother, that's for sure!

For those feeling peurile and dirty, I found out last week that my favorite online source of DVD porn, Adult DVD Empire (which I have recommended here before but for which, sadly, I am not a compensated endorser) is giving away free DVD's and vibrators with orders through the month of September... Some restrictions apply, but now's the time to stock up!

FWIW, my recent order arrived and while I got a couple of movies and a free DVD, Mrs. Hand received free in the order some foot- long behemoth called "The Earthquake"... And to think it would have been the perfect thing to give away to some lucky lady of the FB, sort of a "travelling trophy", if you will, for something.

Come to think of it, she hasn't called me much at work the past few days. I think I've been replaced. Sigh.

However iatrogenic C-sections may be, most American doctors perform them out of (excessive?) fear of risk, not because the mother desperately wanted one. They instead convince the mother, correctly or not, that unusual delivery risks weigh in favor of C-section. Only an incredibly neurotic mother would "feel bad" for "choosing" a C-section over a vaginal delivery. She can always convince herself that the baby would have died or been injured during a vaginal delivery. Doubt about the origin of allergies is a small price to pay for this.

One final pro-nursing point, because I can't let anything go: The Little Mean One was a relatively late breastfeeder, and em's got amazing food curiosity because, unlike mass-produced formula, human breast milk has flavor undertones of what the mother has consumed. The other day em asked for some chana masala from mom's plate. Suck on that, Enfamil!

Ah, thanks for the heads up that it was semi-annual breast feeding post day. My .02 which I have probably posted on the previous 46 breastfeeding threads is that I'm pro-breastfeeding and pro-relatively late breastfeeding.

One of my daughters had a genetic thing where if she had not been breastfed as an infant she would have in all likelihood died in the first couple of weeks of infancy. But we did not know that until a year or so later when she was initially diagnosed. She ended up on the juice until 22 mos. for reasons related to the genetic thing, although the last 6 months or so was just twice a day, morning and bedtime.[

I'm sad that John "Pops" Hope isn't going to be around for this hurricane. He was one of the greats when it came to the hurricane game.

http://www.hurricanes.net/content/hd...0200_hope4.jpg

From the June 2002 obit:

"John Raymond Hope, one of the country's leading hurricane forecasters, died today of complications related to heart surgery. He was 83 years old.

For nearly 20 years, The Weather Channel viewers turned to Hope for information and guidance when tropical weather threatened their homes. He joined The Weather Channel in 1982 as the Tropical Coordinator and an On-Camera Meteorologist, becoming a key source of information for U.S. coastal residents during hurricane seasons.

He was cited as the "voice of reason" when broadcasting on The Weather Channel, and weather experts often acknowledged Hope as "the man America watches" when hurricanes approached the United States."

We miss ya Pops. Hope there's lots of big weather events up in heaven.
