Yeah, in 92, you were too busy overpaying Danny Tartabull.

But Puckett would have blocked Bernie anyway.

I don't know if it would be only about the money. Once you are rich beyond your dreams, you don't really need to be richer.

But with the Yankees, he'd have a better shot of being in post-season play more often. The potential of a World Series ring to two might be a bigger lure than the money. But if you're going to the Yankees, you've got to get every last cent possible to make up for the much more critical fans and press, not to mention the increased COL.

St. Paul is full of rubes?

Unless you mean by "cost" the emotional cost of the abuse of NY press, the actual "cost" of living in New York is a rounding error on any salary these guys get. And that includes the higher cost of Cristal or other bottle service at the night clubs.

If Mauer leaves, I'd really hate him to go to the Yankees. I have a longstanding hatred of the Yankees that is more of a George Steinbrenner hatred but it has spread to the whole organization.

Seattle and Detroit. And the diff was $200-300k per year for 5 years. Money he would have largely spent on an in season place and flying his family around the country. It's not like the $5mm+ (times 5 or 6 years) difference Mauer (and Morneau) are going to be faced with.

We are not comparing Joe Mauer to Kent Fucking Hrbek.

ETA: I guess he was okay in RBI Baseball.

True, but right now he is looking at hitting behind Span and ahead of Morneau, Kubel, Cuddyer and Young for the next five or so years, hopefully with Cabrera in there for awhile too. That's actually almost a Yankee-level offense (if they only had some pitching).

Span - .312, 179 hits, 23 steals,
Cabrera - .292
Mauer - .364, 28 HR, 96 RBI, 1.027 OPS
Morneau (including post injury) - .274, 30 HR, 100 RBI
Kubel - .300, 27 HR, 102 RBI
Cuddyear - .276, 32 HR, 94 RBI
Young - .285, 12 HR, 60 RBI

Although I think the Twins need to give serious consideration to moving him to third next year to replace the always injured Crede and get Morales (.316) into the lineup

And Kent was a guy who would very much rather be hunting and fishing than hitting the clubs.

Morneau should be interesting though. Yanks don't need a first baseman, although I guess the Sox have the option of moving Youklis back to third.

Hrbek was offered what would have been the third or fourth largest contract (total dollars) in baseball then. So, yeah, it's a semi-legit comparison. Texeira has the current 3d largest contract ($180mm/8 yrs), and one would expect that's about what the Yanks would offer Mauer.

Uh...take your pick. Mauer and Morneau or playoff level-pitching.

I suppose he could argue he took White Sox players, that is more than one, out with him, so overall it helped?

I can't figure out who he with. My guesses: Alex Rios and Octavio Dotel.

The mother of decades-ago ex just friended me on Facebook. Isn't that a little weird? She was always a good person, the kind of person I wouldn't want to say "no" to.
