I read The Princess Bride and really enjoyed it, but Goldman is kind of an ass, isn't he? Still, I will Netflix The Sting. And maybe Nobody's Fool, although I want to read the book first.

Cool Hand Luke is a brilliant movie and one that can't be turned off if you're flipping through channels. Absolutely brilliant.

I loved The Sting too, even though the bad guy is an over-actor. It actually fits with the era and genre, though, I suppose.

I have been watching Sports Night and his character on there is kind of whiny too. I can't say I'm finding either of the guys attractive on any kind of sexual level, though. I like their interactions -- his whininess is kind of integral to the relationship and so I'm okay with it.

Pretty much his looks and his voice (the timbre of it, not any whinyness). There's also the 6 degrees of separation factor. He was good college friends with a former co-worker and his wife.

not to be picky, but the cuts between the shows were a bit distracting. otoh, it was sort of cool to see how a joke played in the 3 (johannesberg (sp?), BK and London) cities. I was shocked that the Joke "I don't want a President with a bucket list," went over in South Africa. I don't know an American who saw that flick, and would not expect it to have gone over. Oh well.

But here's my question, he seems to have added a lot more physical comedy. like a beat off joke he makes a beat off gesture for awhile. he also did some funny walks for jokes, but i can't remember the context. I just don't remember him doing anything but the constant pacing. Am i misremembering or did he do physical stuff before. he seemed a bit uncomfortable doing it.

of course, the thing was great overall, i'm just wondering.

There were definitely entire seasons of Six Feet Under where I wanted to kick him in the face... the character, not the actor.

As for the actor, for me, it's his looks. And his height. And something in the tone of his voice.

He also reminds me of men I've known. He's definitely my type.

okay, so the above is about how the refs will be watching rip closely this year, he's been getting away with too much- but how about this:
  • During a meeting of NBA officials conducted last week by new vice president and director of officials Bernie Fryar, Hamilton frequently popped up on the replays of calls that were missed. Hamilton often pushes off while running around screens to shake defenders and has a scratch-and-claw style on defense.

On another replay from the 2007 Eastern Conference finals, a late-game play in which Hamilton bumped LeBron James was cited as an example where a no-call should have been a foul.

the nba is spending time looking for examples when LeBron didn't get a call? motherfucker. i think we should just have the nba champion play the
cavs after the finals. that way they can get the TV ratings but still keep the game semi-honest.

Remember his joke from a few years back about hailing a cab? I remember him getting pretty physically into that. I'm sure there were others.*

I thought the overall show was good, with a few really hilarious moments. The cuts between shows in different places highlighted how tightly-scripted his material is. He is obviously an utter control freak.

*ETA - soft shoe dance from the same routine, I think, and Stevie Wonder getting a peek. But these may be exceptions that prove the rule with him - very little physical stuff and lots and lots of finely-honed verbal stuff.

Thanks to Nick Denton's Valleywag:

Quote:

Stanford's new financial aid policy, had it gone into effect a bit sooner, might have killed the Valley's own Pretty Woman story: David Warthen, cofounder of Ask.com, married alleged Stanford Law escort Cristina "Brazil" Shultz just four months after Schultz's assets — $61,000 in cash — were seized by the government. From her postings on escort's clients' review boards, bragging of paying off student loans with her new night job, the IRS deduced she must have a lot of unpaid taxes: At $1,300 per two-hour "modeling" appointment, $5,000 for "overnight," and over 80 men claiming they'd been her clients — hey, do the math. After becoming her husband, Warthen was able to convince the Feds that the money was a gift from him, meant as "a benefit for the both of them". Talk trash if you must, but since they likely met on the job, Warthen is telling the truth. Carry on, Jeeves! (Photo by RM Studios)

It was interesting to see how scripted he is, and interesting to see some of the slight variations he made for location. (in J-burg: "Barack Obama may not be a really black name here, but in America....")

But my interest in that was outweighed by my annoyance with the constant switching.

I get harder just thinking about the possibility of them grabbing me under the table at dinner than a dozen Britneys, Jennifers, Katies, both Olsens, Christinas, Laras, or Poshs. The modern comparisons are Angelina, Charlize, Salma, KZJ, both Elizabeths (Hurley and Shannon), and Katherine Heigl.

Actual fashion question

My cousin's daughter (junior in college) is spending next semester in NYC doing an internship in marketing or PR. She won't find out until later this fall what industry she'll be working in (though for some reason she thinks it will be a magazine -- don't know if that is a guess or real info).

She wants to start getting clothes to wear. Are there some basic pieces she can get here that will work no matter where she ends up working? Anything in colors other than black? She's a very pale-skinned ice blond.

Many thanks to the fashionistas.
