Australia

In a few weeks we are going to Australia for 2.5 weeks. The bulk of the time will be in Perth and Melbourne. In between we are currently scheduled to spend a few days in Sydney and then Adelaide. Adelaide is a jumping off point only to go to Kangaroo Island, and we are scheduled to be in Adelaide for 1.5 days.

My mother's family moved to the States in the 20s. My grandma's sister moved to Australia. We fell out of touch with the Aussie branch, and none of us knew of them. I found them, in Adelaide, and they are urging us to stay longer. I think this will require dropping Sydney entirely (or at most 1 day which hardly seems worth the bother). Any strong feeling against dropping Sydney? (the Aussie family owns a famous restaurant and I'm sure we will have incredible I-tie food there)

After the Olympics they stopped the effort to clean the air.

But you can see stuff.

edit- this was in August so Burger may have better info

Sorry. By "bad" I meant by Beijing standards, as it has been the last few weeks. There will almost certainly be pollution, which is true of LA too. Just a question of eye-stinging, lung-burning bad or just manageable urban smog bad.

I'm sorry, I didn't realize he worked for you.

I don't even think the wife wants to go, mostly because the 11 hour flight is a lot to take, especially if we take the other monkeys too. The kids are probably too young and stupid to want to go anyway, though I think they'd enjoy getting high tea somewhere and going nuts at Harrods or Selfridges. I know I'd have fun hitting and getting hit by a bunch of gits over a rough game of footie, guvnor.

and i just meant non-summer may be much better- but ncs, either way, you still should go. it is an amazing place. Tianwhatever square alone is worth breathing the smog for a few days.

It shouldn't be hard to justify spending a few more days in London drumming up some business. I mean, it is not hard to find a couple worthwhile folks to have breakfast or lunch with in the world's finance capital, and it's a hell of a lot better than billiing time.

Wife swap? Tell you what, you take the kids too and we have a deal.

I have not traveled widely. London is the only European city I have ever been. I went for business and had a day and a half to sight-see. I spent most of the time at the British Museum and the National Gallery. I went walking through the streets of Soho in the rain, ate at Lee Ho Fook's, and had a great time.

If you haven't been there, it's a worthwhile trip, even with a short amount of free time. If you go traveling a lot, then it's probably not worth it.

Man, there is no dealing involved here. I checked in with her, and if you're not inviting her to join you, you should not ask what she's done while you're away.

London's a great place to go on someone else's dime.

I went for pure pleasure when the pound was real strong against the dollar. We went for indian food and while the meal was great, the bill for 3 people was the equivalent of $180. In the East Village, $34.

No, the ref should have just added more stoppage time.

I've only been to Sydney in Australia and it's a pretty cool city. Lots of cool neighborhoods and restaurants and bars, the harbour and tons of beaches within a cab ride. I wouldn't skip it. Open your wallet and add a few more days.

We went for our honeymoon a few months ago. Had a wonderful time. Graham got to DJ the after party of a concert for one of his favorite bands, but I'm guessing Flinty's presentation won't be in Camden at 1:30 in the morning in a dingy rock n roll club right next to the Koko Theatre with a bunch of French and Italian electroswingers.

The rest of our trip was sightsee-y. I'm guessing that Flinty won't get as much of a kick out of Stamford Bridge as Graham did. But Harrods, British Museum, Tate Modern, Covent Garden, Westminster are all pretty cool.

I think my favorite day though was wandering through Porotbello Road in the morning and then the Camden Markets in the afternoon one rainy Saturday.

I suspect you and G lead a much more exciting and interesting existence than I do. About 20 years ago I was fairly interesting.

No knock on Sydney at all, but I think you'd get much more out of visiting people you have a connection with in Adelaide than with going to Sydney as a tourist. I have a friend from elementary school who lives in Sydney and it's much more interesting to visit her than it is to check the city out on my own.
