hmmm. I've heard Melbourne is much more a city I'd enjoy. all things being equal I want to climb that Sydney bridge in a shorter time than one of my FB friends did (hi you know who) but the arrangement of how we planned this may force missing Sydney. I also met two Aussies in a line at the Moth last week who told me of this very neat beach walk in Sydney; sounded great, but perhaps driven by the fact we were talking about a beach walk that will be in 90 degree weather while standing outside in 20 degree weather for an hour.

No.

Not my favorite city to go to. But it was still exciting to go.

I really like Sydney (never been to Melbourne or Adelaide, alas), but I think it's always great to be able to visit people -- it's just a different experience.

I missed a whole page of the board there. But when I went back, I didn't see any pictures.

my prose spawns visuals, for those who read actively and open their mind's eye.

Smog from Beijing obscured them.

True, but not the visuals you're thinking of.

Adelaide is a jumping off point only to go to Kangaroo Island, and we are scheduled to be in Adelaide for 1.5 days.

My mother's family moved to the States in the 20s. My grandma's sister moved to Australia. We fell out of touch with the Aussie branch, and none of us knew of them. I found them, in Adelaide, and they are urging us to stay longer. I think this will require dropping Sydney entirely (or at most 1 day which hardly seems worth the bother). Any strong feeling against dropping Sydney? (the Aussie family owns a famous restaurant and I'm sure we will have incredible I-tie food there)

Hey! Things I can address not entirely out of my ass. Sydney is New York, Los Angeles, or Dallas. Melbourne is San Francisco, New Orleans or Houston. More laid back, cooler, the place you would rather live but less flash. Adelaide is St. Louis or Minneapolis. It's alright, nice enough, but ultimately meh. As for Perth, don't stay there, stay in Fremantle.

I know we can fly direct from LA to Shanghai, but it looks like there is no non-stop option between Shanghai and Mumbai. Any preference of Asian airlines (other than my general Cathay preference)? Looks like Air China, Air India, Cathay (Dragonair), Malaysia Airlines are all possibilities...

Shanghai, Shanghai, Shanghai, Shanghai, Shanghai, Shanghai, etc. India is a shithole and Mumbai has some of the shittiest holes. You can hide in the tourist area, or you can go see how fucked up India is (which is interesting) but Shanghai offers a lot more unless you want an introduction into squalid (though fragrant and colorful) poverty, a fucked up caste system, sexist asshole men, running sewers in the street, and hippies who think they love the place. I have been to 76 countries and India is somewhere around 77th in where I want to go back. They increasingly have the wealth, yet Benin puts them to shame. And Mumbai's slums and treatment of its people are amongst the worst, but you won't see that unless you flee your handler and go out on your own. But, Shiva, that country is an abortion.

Not Bob's Id 01-30-2013 12:36 PM

Is there anybody going to listen to my story?

Not Bob just rushed out of the office. When I said, yo, you leaving without me? He just said I wasn't needed, and shouted this: Florentina Ariza had kept his answer ready for fifty-three years, seven months and eleven days and nights. 'Forever,' he said.

Now he's watching telenovelas? I worry about that boy sometimes.

I saw that article, and I have to admit, the second thing I thought about was NotBob. The first thing I thought about was, man, time has not been real kind.
