we have a mac book Pro and love it.

Take away points: Does your firm support Citrix on Mac? mine does not offer tech support for it but many folks run it on mac.

Mac is a much more stable platform. we really don't print with our mac but I am sure people will chime in with tips. bottom line: love Mac. but we are returning i pad. it's like a huge i phone. LAME

i PAD doesn't do flash or firefox. lame lame.

Possibly 267th. The last place woman was 45 minutes. Second to last place was 43 minutes. Top women were about 17 or 18 minutes. Did you really do this for fun?

I can't answer your Citrix and monitor questions (though I'm thinking the answer to the monitor question is to get a Mac monitor), but the printer/scanner should work fine with the Mac. You just have to install the correct driver. And yes, Mac computers play Flash movies. Quicktime instead of Windows Media, so there's occasionally videos you won't be able to play, but that's rare these days.

The monitor should work, although what kind of connection does it have? You may need some sort of adapter.

Unless you're getting a Mac Mini you won't need the monitor (laptop or iMac), though. The mini is fun, but you may be just as well off getting an iMac from performance and cost standpoints.

How old is the scanner/printer? There should be drivers, unless it's super old.

I can use Cisco VPN on my Mac, but Citrix is of course different. Why not ask your IT people?

I'm trying to find out something similar. I have an iPad and am trying to get my IT folks to configure my Citrix app to connect to the Firm's system. If it works, I think it could be quite cool.

It depends on your height. I wouldn't consider 4MPH a standard walking along the sidewalk pace -- a little more brisk than that, especially for those of us who are Not Tall.

Fugee Sister is short so 4mph is a pretty fast walk for her. She & I did a 5K walk recently -- just walking, no running -- and finished at 48:something.

Perhaps someone is confusing 5K and 10K?

If you decide to stick with PC, I got a Dell desktop last month from the Dell Outlet. There are a lot of weird configurations there but I checked regularly and finally found one that had just what I wanted at considerably less than retail.

Indeed. Once I get my IT folks to configure it, then I'll totally be sitting in the Starbucks with the iPad, bluetooth keyboard, latte in hand, and wondering if that's really Flower over there in the corner, Googling MN 5k results.

Mr Man just picked up the wireless keyboard for the iPad and he's quite excited about it. He's not planning on traveling with a laptop ever again.

Okay, this is moving me towards iPad-land. But first, I have to see if my colleagues' campaign, to get the IT department to treat Apple users right, has been successful.

If you already have a monitor you want to use, why get a Mac? Seems to me getting an Apple is all about having an iMac.

But what do I know? Maybe you want a super duper powerful Mac Pro.

Either way, if your monitor and printer are relatively new, they should work with a Mac. (I don't see why any monitor wouldn't.)

Prolly any recent monitor will work with a mack laptop or mac mini.

The HP all-in-one will work if it's mac compatible.

Don't know about whether Cytrix works on macs but macs do run windows.

The mac operating system is far, far better than windows. I'm in the why didn't I switch sooner camp. Actually, I am the kind of guy who jerks off thinking of an imac.

I run Citrix just fine on my Mac. But this question is for your IT group. They need to have the software at the firm that accomodates Macs for you to be able to work at a virtual desktop at home. The first time I tried to do it I had trouble (years ago), but IT sent me some email with an attachment that made it seamless from then on.

I was just instructed by my techno-guru to "buy an iPad, because if enough people get one then the IT-gestapo will have to relent."

I might do that, but only so I can feel like a 21st-century Rosa Parks.

My approach has always been to stick with the PCs and buy more wine and scotch. Those priorities have worked well for me, and I see no point in changing them.

Approprp of Nothing, I recently have decided that scotch is very good on ice cream. I love summer.

I have a non-Apple (and much cheaper) mouse with the right click, works just fine. The right click is the one PC habit I can't give up.

Haven't had any luck with Citrix yet, but I can bring the work laptop home when needed.

Concur. The Mac mini is optimal only for specialty stuff like home media servers or when you want a MacOS computer plugged into your PC monitor and keyboard with a KVM switch. The mini is a bunch of laptop-grade parts in a desktop machine -- a non-laptop that's optimized for a small form factor. The iMac is almost always a much better deal, because that's where Apple puts its state-of-the-art silicon (other than the Mac Pro, which is owned only by design professionals).
