Now you know where that weird finger-sign, that's almost but not quite like a "hook 'em horns" sign, comes from.

Maybe he's the Ford Madox Ford of hard rock.

Somewhat apropos, here is a good article on the reissue of "Exile on Main St":

I read this in the actual Sunday paper. In five years will that still happen?

That tidbit was included in accompanying lecture.

I generally love my 30s except for one thing: everyone's animals are dying. My sister's beloved Holden is being put down as I type. He's a twelve and a half year old lab, and he had a sudden case of the can't breathes this morning. The vet tried to get him going, but it was obvious after a few hours that without an oxygen tube the pooch wasn't going to last long. I rushed over to the vet when my sister called with uncontrollable crying, and it was awful to see such an active animal rendered pretty much motionless.

This is the fourth animal lost in my immediate family in the last two years (my boyfriend's two cats, the Displaced Dog and Holden). Of my friends, I've had to say goodbye to lots of cats and dogs in the same period of time. Not to mention all of the animals here over the last few years. All of us got our animals either in college or shortly after, and they're hitting the end of their natural lifespan more or less at the same time.

This sucks.

Much love to you, your sister and Holden.

He'll be well met in puppy heaven.

that does suck, but I offer this- in early college my Pennypacker roommate had elderly parents (he was a very late opps). a high school GF of his got married. He said to his 'rents "it's weird when your friends start getting married."
his mommy said, "wait until they start dying." so the pets going decade is at least less sucky than your 70s. wonk confirms this is very accurate.

This post was the equivalent of a rickroll, except I think I would have preferred seeing Rick Astley rather than J. J. Redick. Screw you man.

Didn't you grow up on a farm or ranch or something?

I always thought the natural lifespan of most male animals was 1 to 2 years.

It's always sad to see a friend go, but it is also part of life, and you're lucky to have put off the regular experience this long.

I normally don't respond to a post twice, but you could take your doggies to this while they're still healthy so they can enjoy their time.

Well in your 40s and 50s you replace "animals" with [insert dear family member here].

I like you and all, but remind me not to talk to you for awhile next time I suffer the death of a loved one, okay?

I read today that the guys at the Large Hadron Collider were close to solving the mystery of why the universe is made up of matter as opposed to anti-matter (or, more likely, equal amounts of each, which would then annihilate each other). My first thought was that if we lived in an evil opposite universe consisting of anti-matter then we would all be evil versions of ourselves with goatees. My second thought was, well, think about it.
