I get the battle between good and evil storyline. That's compelling. Keeps you in the theatre. Where I get lost in the screenplay is sacrificing your kid to save the souls of your playthings. These seems odd.
Think about it. You're God. You're bored (I mean, really bored). You're thinking, "These people I created are annoying. They're not acting as I told them to. Perhaps I can tweak their free will a bit and get them in line. Or maybe I can just scrap the whole ant farm and start again---
No... No. I think I'll have a kid with one of them. And I'll have them kill him. And nothing will change in the way the people act afterward. Yeah, I'll do that."
Who would write that kind of treatment? You'd be thrown off the lot two minutes into the pitch. The "divine scarifice" side of the story simply makes no sense, and it wrecks the rest of the movie, which otherwise has great human drama.
