Doesn't hiking/camping present a basic choice between the comforts of home and, well, being at home versus being out in nature without all those comforts? Do they have HDTV in a can as well?

For me, hiking/camping involves what I can cary with me into nature. If luxuries are easy to carry, I don't have a problem bringing them with me into nature. I'm more likely to take better food with me hiking into a lovely glen in the redwoods than I am would bring for an every day lunch at work.

But camping and hiking is more fun if there is good food at the meal breaks. And a glass of wine or two would make falling asleep in a tent a little easier.

I am stunned that you would suggest that bringing alcohol on a camping trip somehow ruins the purity of the nature experience. Remind me never to go camping with you. Actually, don't bother. I'll remember on my own.

There are herbal remedies that are lighter to carry.

For me, camping involves carefully chosen porters to carry the appropriate luxuries.

I have been very happy to see the civilized backwoods lodge make a comeback in recent years. I especially like the fly-in places in the North Woods.

hank's wife promised me lots of shit too, the problem is you need to find a jersey in the right orientation as a picture of her. the one you gave me of her won't work unless you can find a Blue Boy pictorial on Ivy hockey hunks.

Sometimes, we need to acknowledge simple Universal Truths.

Did you just call me Coltrane? 09-10-2009 10:18 AM

Glasses

I've had the same pair of glasses (or "asses" as the Coltranette calls them) for about 12 years. I think I need new ones. I only wear them in the mornings on the weekends and late at night. I wear contacts otherwise.

Is there any reason to spend $300+ on frames when there are these discount places where you can get two pair for $100? Designer frames are just frames made in China with a label slapped on them, right?

Do you need new frames or just lenses? B/c if just lenses, you could get new ones for your snazzy early 90s frames (I have frames from the 80s that I still wear now and then). If not, get a cheap pair. I got a pair from lenscrafters (I think -- anyway, it was cheap) that I just wear evenings and weekends. No reason to spend good money on designer frames.
