Paging PLF
Today's WaPo runs an article covering the tearing down of old crap from the walls of TGIFriday's and Ruby Tuesday's establishments across the country, raiding flea markets, and nailing said crap back up onto the walls.
Welcome to faux nostalgia and soul-crushing forced joviality, version 2.0. http://media3.washingtonpost.com/wp-...5120800490.jpg (Caption reads: "Michelle Edwards, decor supplier for T.G.I. Friday's, says focus groups have reacted "very well" to the new look for the chain.") Very well? This looks like I'm gonna get harpooned by a fake marlin dangling over my booth, bitch. |

FB Book giving Club
I spent about an hour and a half wandering through a bookstore last night looking for Christmas presents. $156 later, I left (and surprisingly, only bought two things for myself). I suspect I would have ended up spending a lot more had I seen or heard this NPR story on notable books of 2005.
I saw the Nancy Drew book last night and nearly bought it for someone, but I ended up getting Eve: A Biography for her instead. Dear New Girl or Whatever Your Name Is (a graphic novel based off of notes confiscated in high school classes) looks awesome, and I can think of at least three people who would love it. Atlas Maior of 1665 looks like it is actually worth the $200 price tag. (Oh, and for books bought, I got A History of the World in 6 Glasses (2 copies), Spice: The History of a Temptation, The Elements of Style Illustrated, Garner's Modern American Usage, Far Side Mating Rituals Desk Calendar, and a couple of Sudoku books.) |
