Yeah, Wonk, Sabbath influenced lots of shitty bands, but also lots of great ones. Absolute crime that they're not in.

X is eligible this year (Los Angeles came out in '80). I thought they might actually make the ballot. I shouldn't be surprised.

Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables came out in '80. That could be fun. But I suspect the hall would happily resort to extreme physical force to prevent Jello from getting anywhere near the building. Probably for the best, as he would probably just rant for 20 minutes and then refuse to play with the rest of the band.

Every so often, though quite rarely, I think "man, this would be a really good time to be single."

Take yesterday, for instance. Work has taken me to a distant part of the state. But I finish up pretty early, and decide to hit a couple of area wineries, since I don't get down that way often. Ended up tasting wine with an extremely cool chick from Athens, GA, who was doing the same thing as me (finished work, checking out some wine before heading back to Portland, where she's stay the night before flying out the next day). Smart, funny, reasonably hot, and a killer accent. Good musical tastes, even (both new stuff and a double-diget Dead show count). Digs wine.

Now, were I single, this would have been one helluva one night stand opportunity. Maybe even an excuse to visit Athens some time. But, I'm happily-married-with-kids guy, so not for me.

I think I actually developed something of a crush on this girl. I don't know when that last happened.

I think its all branding. You are right that generally, one model is as hot as another. But you need to brand a model to make the cost of using her exceptionally high so that all the ugly talentless people behind her (agents, publicist, etc...) can get paid on her coattails. Middlemen.

Your vision is similar to what a lot of producers of reality TV are doing - bag the “talent”, fuck the agents, lawyers and other leeches and hire no names for nothing. I think a lot of people agree with you that high-priced models, actors, etc... bring no added value for their enormous cost. Independent productions have been cutting into studio/agent/lawyers’ business for years. The direct to audience platform of the internet is wrecking all sorts of businesses riddled with middlemen.

But lemme ask you this... If we find a way to screw every middleman out of the system, be it in music, movies, trading securities, real estate, etc... what will all those people do? Where will all the ugly little fucks who suck money from actors', players', home buyers' and singers' coattails go? What happens to the real estate agent across the street from me and the residential r/e lawyer when everybody starts selling their home directly?
