Congratulations, Mrs. Unser. Did the gimme cap have a full or a partial veil?

Some of it. He also recorded a decent amount of Robert Johnson, some Willie Dixin, and a whole bunch of tunes that pre-dated published music, so nobody rightly knows.

Which reminds me, my (COMPLETELY ADORABLE*) husband and I were talking about some fan of his father's (she's nice, but sort of a kook), and he said very thoughtfully, "You know, some of those racing people are kind of tacky...", like it had just dawned on him. It probably had just dawned on him.

In your neighborhood it would be known as a "feed cap". It's the noveau WT that calls them gimme caps. It really needs "AGWAY" on the front to give it all the bona fides.

Ain't nothin tacky about a nice summer day out at the track drinking beer and watching the crush of metal, rubber and silicone.

This is in some sort of foreign language, right?

It is also sometimes known as a "gimme cap" (as in "give me") or a "feed cap" because this style of hat originated as a promotional give-away from feed or farming supply companies to farmers, truck drivers, or other rural workers.

It's a "gimme cap" because it's a giveaway from a dealer who's looking for a much more lucrative relationship. Maybe feed companies are what you're familiar with, but it might a stock auctioneer, a tractor dealer, etc. Nothing WT, nouveau or otherwise, about the name.

But I'm THRILLED!!!

Congrats. It is good to be sappy and happy, thrilled is just icing on the cake.

Looks like I hit a raw suburbanite nerve here.

My sponsors used to give me caps to wear, but we never referred to them as gimme caps. Depending on the sponsor, the sport at issue, and the variety of "cap", they were either referred to as "swag" or "jimmy caps".....
