I discussed this with a guy who only buys Versace shirts actually made in Italy (apparently some are not) and he really couldn't understand how you could compare some seamstress in a back room to the greatness that is Versace. While his comments dripped with the insecurity of anyone that is so wed to a single brand, the only point I could grasp from his ranting was that it had to do with setting the trends, as opposed to following the trends.

He also wore non-matching colorful socks. I keep waiting for that trend so that I can follow it.

Final note, he is the only person I know who polishes the bottoms of his shoes. Seemed dangerous to me, but man they looked nice.

WTF does it mean to polish the soles of your shoes, anyway? Does he glide from room to room?

when my kids were in early elementary school, a native american woman came to speak to the school about their traditional meds and non-wasteful lifestyle etc.

she wore two different colored socks, and a kid asked her about it, she answered something like, "why do they have to match? I wear bright clothes because I like colors and I like more than 1 color.

my kids grew up wearing different colored socks, UNTIL 6th grade.

p.s. how could the Northwest pilots be working on their laptops as they approach landing. think about it.

p.p.s. how come all things Northwest are now Delta, except when they fuck up.

Yes, but probably not at the same level of quality. Borellis are silly shirts. They make Pink feel like cheap paper mache. I have a Purple Label Ralph Lauren shirt, comparable to Borelli, and the fabric is much softer than Pink's stuff. Whole different level of quality. I don't wear it much because I don't want to ruin it.

And how is it useful in any context other than a dance floor (perhaps).

First thing I do with new shoes is take some sandpaper to the soles.* Those Metro tiles are deadly slippery when wet as it is.

*100 grit, if you're wondering.

It still can't fit you as well as a bespoke shirt. And I'm sure a really good tailor can find you the same quality of material.

If I hadn't seen him doing it I wouldn't have guessed it. I think he is trying to make sure the shoes look new as long as possible.

He was very obsessed with everything looking as good as it possibly could. I served as an interesting specimen in contrast.

I wore a Chinese knock-off of Versace the next time I saw him. He did not comment. I enjoyed the whole evening of him not commenting.

Apparently they were at 37000 ft as they flew over MSP. Not that I find their explanation really plausible either, but they just completely ignored any approach preparation.

Fits pretty nice. And I doubt a tailor could use that fabric, and cut it that well, for anything under the price the store charged. Factor in the annoyance of being fitted and it's a no brainer. Hence, I've never gotten shirts fitted.
