I came in second in a grilled cheese compeition, missing a trip to the Grilled Cheese Invitational nationals by five points, using this method. Pre-roasting the tomatoes in a wood oven was key.

So I took the day off today because I had a freelance project I needed to finish up in the morning and I thought it would be nice to hang in Venice this afternoon (finally a nice day after gloominess and rain the last couple of weekends). I was sitting in my living room when I heard someone on a ladder in the side of my building. I looked over to see it was right next to my unit. Figured it was a maintenance man. Tate was watching the goings on closely and I was sort of watching too. A couple of minutes later I see a guy throw a bike down from the balcony above mine! Seriously the dude was stealing stuff using a big ladder against the building in the middle of the day. So I ran to the door and opened it and started yelling at him. Then my apartment manager heard the commotion and came out to the back of his unit too. So the guy took off, leaving the bike and the ladder. Now I'm waiting for the cops (I hear they take forever for this sort of thing so my afternoon may be shot).

Bizarre, right? What are the chances that the one day I take a day off work is the same day that a dude tries to steal shit from my building? What an unlucky thief.

My extended family is part of the teetotaler segment of Fargoland. But not all of them -- the maternal side is pretty dry but a few of the paternal side relatives are starting to drink.

Well, he had tied a rope to it and lowered it down as far as he could with the rope before dropping it the last story and a half. Not sure if that damaged the bike much. I just caught up with my manager and he said the police finally showed up, but not much they can do, etc. (LAPD isn't going to throw any man hours at trying to solve property crimes. Fact.) Guess I don't even need to give a statement since they have the bike and now the guy's ladder. They should at least fingerprint the ladder to see if they have the guy's prints already, but I'm sure they won't. Sigh. I'll be doing a lot more making sure my balcony door is locked when I leave the apartment from now on.

I don't doubt that, but you still never expect it to happen right in front of (technically right behind) you like that. And it is just weird that the day he picked is the one weekday that I happened to be at home.

Ketchup is too salty, even the gourmet stuff. The whole idea of the tomato is cuts/compliments the saltiness of the cheese and bread. You're doubling that.
