Dream Interpretation

What does it mean to dreamhallucinate that you have WAY too many toes? Does it matter that you are being chased while you have all these toes, and that you got a pedicure to make the toes less frighening, and that you have six toes on your right foot but like 12 on your left?

What the hell is the symbolism in an orange fabric very steep staircase that you work really hard to climb, making minimal progress while others are doing just fine, thanks, and where you wake up exhausted and still never made it to the top? Why are they orange? Why are they fabric?

No reason......

Not that you care, but:

"Match Point" - 8.5/10
The Woodman's triumphant return, except there isn't a reason to think he actually directed it. The Welshman is great, contrary to some reviews. Scarlett is - as usual - hot, hot, hot, until she tries to imitate the late Shelly Winters from "A Place in the Sun" - which isn't improper I guess, since its the basis for her role - and becomes overly-irritating. My favorite flick in some time.

"Brokeback Mountain" - 8/10
Extremely well-crafted film. Ang Lee redeems himself from the Hulk. Superb acting all around. Tragic on many levels, other than the obvious* However, it felt too long at times and there was some gratituous emotional weight tossed in at the end.

Now someone please tell me whether we should see "Good Night, G.L." or "Capote" next.

Here's an example of the ignorant being correct for once, but for the wrong reason. In a "blind" taste test indeed the distinction might well be subtle. One major focus of the last 3 years of the Itamae program is concentration on the visual aesthetics brought to the creation. If I could open my eyes I could tell the differecne quite easily, but blindfolded it might be a challenge.

But let us put aside this debate, however interesting, and focus on one disturbing fact shown by this new "judged" page- there are no potential newbers left in cyberland. We aren't keeping newbers away from here with hate diatribes, or substandard quality- if that were true then Judged would be full of new socks we'd never seen. instead, someone has gone there and stolen several of the more well-regarded socks and started lowering the goodwill associated therewith-

BUT NO NEWBERS- even though they canvassed america's law firms to solicit all the best legal minds. flower, this is it- there are no new socks to meet- que sera sera

I saw Match Point this weekend too - and agree (mostly) with your assessment. Scarlett Johanssen is great until her role turns into a one-note performance (not necessarily her fault). Emily Mortimer reminds me of someone, and I cannot place it -- it's PISSING ME OFF, dammit. I already looked at imdb.com, and it's not from the movies that I'm finding her familiar. It is my favorite movie in some time, but that's not saying much. I don't go out too often, and when I do, it's not usually to the movies.

What surprised me was how little laughter there was at the funny lines (I won't spoil the setup, but the joke ending with the punchline, "It seems like rather an unfair trade" was absolutely hilarious. It was met with (well, but for my rather unladylike guffaw) deadening silence. WTF? I know it's not a comedy, but that doesn't mean you're not allowed to laugh at the funny stuff!). All in all, a very, very enjoyable movie. It was the opinion of one reviewer that the visual near the end (the scene in slow motion) will be an iconic classic for filmdom in general for many years to come. I don't know if that's saying too much, but it was quite something (that scene).

http://ask.yahoo.com/ask/20040513.html
For someone who fancies himself a timmy, you are certainly quick to throw out 800 years of sushi rules.

The only standard I see in your post is that "sushi grade" fish must be frozen. That is objective, and you wouldn't need be an Itamae to tell if a piece of flesh met the standard. It is, of course, also pure bullshit. WFUM New Hampshire doesn't make sushi rules- Itamae are trained in an 8 years apprenticeship- there are Itamae organizations that decide what fish is "sushi grade." For 2 years all an Itamae apprentice can do is wash pans and make the rice. Do you think they know something you and I don't by the end of the 8 years?

And guess what? You don't make SUSHI! You may take some raw fish and wrap it on instant rice but that's not fucking sushi unless you have trained for 8 years. I don't care if its the tastiest fish in San F. If you go to Tokyo the only job you could get would be at the conveyor belt "fish snack" places. You can't make sushi Atticus, sorry.

Quick question; what brand package rice vinegar flavoring do you use?

I don't mean to take you down a notch, but rules are rules are rules. We're lawyers for god's sakes.

What is passive about it?

By the way, "blind taste test" was meant as metaphorical. What I meant is that you would be figuratively blinded from the knowledge of which sushi was created by whom. But I am sure your literalism brings you ample bliss.

Finally, for future reference, the expression is: "Nest'ce pas?"

I thought you were devoted to a more intellectually rigorous board in 2006. I am having my doubts.

Oh, dear. While difficult for me to have to point out the error of flower's ways, I am confident that he will thank me for this dose of tough love.

The French expression "n'est-ce pas" is just as I have written it there between that cute little set of quotation marks. It is possible, however, that you were referring to something else, in which case, my most humble apologies.

You are aware that the entire Dallas contingent has relocated to LA, aren't you? If you make nice with us, Mr Man and I will let you in on which bar there is partially owned by us and therefore would come to you with discounted drinks (though no strippers that we know of, alas).

Don't expect a visit from any of the Houston contingent while you are there. The Dallas-Houston rivalry is duly noted. It's like asking you to the Harvard homecoming game.

You have clearly lost your mind. Strippers and sushi? In Dallas? Now, if you'd said strippers and steak, or stippers and barbeque, maybe. But you really shouldn't assume that everywhere has the kind of sushi that has been at you fingertips in LA, Toronto and New Haven. I'm just sayin'.

My favorite restaurant in Vegas is Craft Steak at the MGM. The two times I've been there, everything has been perfect (except arguably the bill). My brother-in-law is getting married at the MGM in May, mostly so that they can have their reception at Craft Steak. Lucky me.

Seafood: Restaurant RM is in the Mandalay Bay.

Steak: There's a gazillion steakhouses. Emeril now has his. Palmer has his. Vongerichten has his. All the chains are there.

Yeah, we wanted to avoid the chains. RM looks great. We're trying to stay close to the Mandalay Bay based on the assumption that most people will be drunk by dinner.

Nob Hill is a great restaurant in MGM (don't remember how close that is to Mandalay). Get the Veal Chop. I also went to Craft in MGM, but thought it was highly over-rated, over-priced and over-trendy.

I'd never heard anything about Craft being well-rated or trendy when I went, and I didn't have to pay. I was very impressed by the quality of the steak, salads, sides, wine list, service and decor. And fuck, it was a great dinner, paid for by my wife's dad. And I'd had a great day playing Pai Gow. So this is why reasonable people may disagree.

However speaking of gambling, I can't believe that on Saturday's NFL games I went 2-0 and lost my ass. Only me. How could the Seahawks and Redskins not even combine for 34 points? I was sure the Seahawks would score that many on their own. I know the answer -- Shaun Alexander's fumble and subsequent injury. But Christ.

Oh, and then any Pats fans can blame me for the loss; I switched my bet mid-game from Denver to NE. You're all very welcome.
