Ultimately, business is what it is all about. That and having the goods on management.

Do you need to quit a firm that promotes on something other than book? Isn't the better course to send out resumes, keep a few irons in the fire and suck checks out of the thing until it collapses?

Oh. Adder, regardless of whose advice you take, you should first ask your doctor if you are healthy enough for sexual activity.

So, Adder, we're looking for progress during the week. What's on the agenda - wooing clients or talking to the cute paralegal?

Advice: stop only drinking the good scotch when a client is buying; instead, take the clients you deal with out and BUY THEM 30 year old scotch. You don't build a practice by freeloading on your clients. Spend the next few months returning every invitation you've accepted without countering; take 'em to ball games, shows, bars, restaurants, whatever. After doing this for a few months, quit your job and go somewhere else, where they can think of you as partner material from day one. And tell the new place that you're only going there to build a business, and that's the opportunity you need to stay and be happy.

And damnit, just ask the paralegal out sometime. It doesn't have to be anything fancy, just ask her for a simple drink after work some day.

Why does this get a red card?

See, progress already! But, Adder, we're trying to get you buff for the paralegal. Hold off on the fried food until you're having it with her. Try a few situps and pushups, too - gets the hormones going.

GGG (in the post quoted above) and because there is a red rectangle in the bottom right hand corner of the post.

Why limit him with the "or"? given the nascent stage of progress towards both goals, he should be doing 1-3 things a day in furtherance of each. Also, after work today he should pick up a bottle of 25-30 year old scotch and indulge in a glass tonight while he watches the Leno Show. This should provide a sense of accomplishment and additional inspiration for him in his other goals.

You should devote less time and energy to responding to really stupid questions, like the one I asked, and devote that time and energy to talking up the cute paralegal.

Or to figuring what leads to partnership in your firm, whichever.

If any of the New Yorkers happen to see one of the copies of the New York Post that was hijacked by the Yes Men today, could you buy me a copy?

The Yes Men are coming to one of the arts organizations that I'm on the board of later on this season, and I'd love to surprise the directors with a copy of the paper.

Saturday night, I was at an event where people waved lighters. Half the "lighters" were cell phones, and half the cell phones used a zippo app on their iphones....

I don't have an iphone. And until Saturday night, I didn't realize how many useful apps there were. A friend of mine, knowing how much I hate other people when I drive, recommended lthis one to me. (spree: language)

An elegant weapon for a more civilized age. Hmmm.

Were I an oooh shiney kinda girl who occassionally took hits of E and danced the night away staring at blinky shit, this one would keep me entertained for hours.

If only.

It's probably for the best I don't have an iphone.

I have been engaged in an argument with some friends about the following:

If you have a wealthy significant other, do you ever approach em about money -- borrowing, investing, etc.?

I don't do it with wealthy friends. I can't imagine doing it with an SO unless our finances were already pretty much merged.

re: Borrowing -- sure. But only if you have fallen on hard times (lost a job, or some other extraordinary event.) Asking to borrow because you want some shiny new toy is cheesy.

re: Investing -- not sure what you mean. You want to ask for investing advice? That may be okay -- but be very careful about following it. People with very different levels of wealth should invest quite differently. And you can never, ever, ever get mad at him if some investment he suggests goes sour (unless it goes sour because he steals the money, in which case be as mad as you want -- it won't help.)

It's really hard for me to hit anyone up for money, and I'm a terrible fundraiser. I have one friend who is ridiculously wealthy and a very good friend of mine. He also has been historically a supporter of the arts. The boards ALWAYS ask me to hit him up for support. I usually take him out for a drink, chat for a half second about whatever it is I'm supposed to be hitting him up for, and then quickly move on to other subjects.
