I have a client that started a farm to raise tilapia. He has several enormous tanks jammed with the fish. He told me that tilapia farming has become very widespread. I've never tasted tilapia, but it must be tasty. Otherwise, why would tilapia be such a popular fish for factory farming.

I've had this trivia repeated to me as well, by a local realtor. The real estate market in Los Angeles, vibrant as it is, still cannot shake off this persistent drag to its fortunes.

Mapquest tells me that the drive to LA is 803 miles and to House 745 miles. By air, LA is 701 and House 646. I don't know how far it is as the crow flies, but unless the El Paso airport is well east of the city, I think this trivia is wrong.

But, more importantly, how can you ever know too much about midwifery?

My Kenyan relatives think it's funny that tilapia is served at fancy restaurants. Despite the fact that a few of them were raised in huts, they are now kind of snobby and think of tilapia as peasant food and would not touch it.

Or, better yet, a sitcom -- I can hear the pitch now: "Mort? Al here. This one's fucking brilliant, I tell you, brilliant. Take one hot Canadian chick -- I mean we're talking Best Legs In Toronto winner hot, you know what I'm saying? What's that? Right, a Jennifer Garner type. Yeah, sure, we'll have her wear latex outfits and shoot people just like in "Alias." Anyway, take this hot Canadian chick with this fun-loving past who has become an uptight city lawyer, and, get this Mort, SHE HAS RELATIVES FROM KENYA! Kenya in Africa, that's right, Mort -- just like that guy who's gonna give you a million five for helping out the central bank. They have to move in with her, and they start driving her crazy with all this Kenyan stuff, mocking trendy fish and things. I mean, wacky hijinks ensue, the shit practically writes itself, you know what I'm saying? Sure, sure, I'll see if we can get the guy from the bank to play a walk-on ...."

Al knows that it's Nigeria that Mort is thinking of, but doesn't want to correct him.

I like to cook fish and vegetables on the grill for fish tacos. The man at the fish counter at the local supermarket always recommends tilapia for tacos. I always opt for some fancier, classier fish. But, two weekend ago, I decided that I would give the tilapia a try. I marinated it for 6-7 hours in a cilantro-salsa-lime juice sauce. Then, when I cooked it, I dusted the tilapia lightly with jalapeno salt. The result was quite satisfying. The tofu comparison made earlier is somewhat accurate -- the fish absorbed flavor quite well, but (addressing GWNC's concerns) did not lose its fish-like flavor. The texture was also excellent, as it was light and flaked into soft taco-appropriate chunks easily. I am now a bit concerned about the raised-in-sewage allegation made by Bilmore. Otherwise, I would recommend this fish for grilling/soft taco purposes without hesitation.

Hank, not every post needs to be Picasso-worthy. As prolific as Picasso was, you are more so. There is no way you can maintain that kind of quality post after post. But that's OK/O.K.

My sister is married to a Kenyan. Hence my brother-in-law and their offspring are my Kenyan relatives (actually, the offspring are Kenyan/Canadian, but I digress). I consider my brother-in-law's parents and siblings to be my relatives as well, since they consider me to be part of their family.

Indeed, Massachusetts once passed laws limiting how much lobster could be served in the poor houses. While in England the poor lads were saying, "More Gruel, Please", here, the request was for a bit of drawn butter.
