I try. This is my favorite wine event of the year. The fingers on my right hand are violaceous by the end, and many of the wineries are handing out their extra bottles for free. Plus, lots of druuuuuunk chicks.

Yes, it's cold.

But -9 with no wind is better than +15 with it.

Apropos of the cold, if you're picking up take-out at a Thai restaurant, wearing a balaclava (because it's below zero), and you see a woman eating dinner by herself, reading a Douglas Adams book, don't be surprised when she looks at you like you're a crazy person after you walk by and say "Don't Panic!"

The balaclava was covering my entire face except for my eyes and nose. She probably did not realize that I am Mostly Harmless.

I don't run if it's below 10. Do you have a limit?

I've run at +3, but that was the coldest. And I was in my 20s then, youthful and adventurous. 10 is probably about it for me, too.

I have recently taken up running again in an effort to drop a few lbs prior to the wedding.

It was in the 50's this morning and I was COLD.

I don't know how you people who live where it is really cold manage to run outside in the winter.

You guys are pussies. My wife's limit is negative 5. My cross country skiing limit is negative 10. Right now it is negative 21. I'll be going to spin class.

Maybe she was worried that you weren't carrying a towel.

eta: I think the coldest day that I've run was 8 degrees. I'm unlikely to break that mark anytime soon.

You don't telemark, do you? Weeeeeeeeee! Look at my long slow turns that span the width of the entire run!

There's nothing better than running in the '40s. Perfect temp. 20s/30s aren't so bad either.

They're huge.

Telemark skiing seems to be a made up sport. But it apparently has some niche usefulness (back country blah blah).

I am thinking of getting an iPod Touch, partially because of the Nike+ technology, and partly because I think they are kind of cool.

The biggest one is 32 gigs. Are they going to come out with one with more storage the minute I buy one? I actually could probably use 64 gigs.

There have been rumors of a 64 gig version for months and months, but I think there's a price problem. The classic uses a cheaper hard drive for storage, but the touch doesn't, meaning that the price differential gets bigger and bigger the more storage you have.

I'm lusting after the touch but have the same problem.

Wouldn't an iPod touch be a little bulky for running? I ues the Nike+ thing with a nano strapped to my arm, which is infinitely more comfortable than the larger old classic ipod that I used to run with.

I run with a classic now and I think the touch is about the same size. It doesn't bother me at all, and I am not buying a nano simply for the nike thingy.

Also the touch does not require the nike plus adapter thingy.

I have two of those - one with the neoprene breathing thing and one without. I call them my ninja hats.

I use them when it's below 25 degrees. My limit is 10. Maybe 15, but but it's well-established that I'm a wuss.

Apropos of nothing, yesterday my boyfriend's penis tasted/smelled faintly of popcorn. (no, he's not sick, nor does he have a bizarre infection). I think it may be some lotion he used. But what lotion smells like popcorn?

I did a cyclocross race down near Grant Park once, where the temp hovered around -10, although at 180 bpm you warm up quickly. Also, I wore my bigboypants to the race......well, it was a bigboyspeedo, but, hey, if you gots it flaunt it, right?

Buttered popcorn scented oil. see here: http://www.naturesgardencandles.com/...s/item/rf-1001

I keep some around for dates that I take to the movies.....when they ask for popcorn, I am able to save the $5 and steer them around to something that has the same sensoury presence, more filling, in a manner of speaking, but, less calories! Win-win-win-win!!!

Today is National Hat Day. In honour of my dual-honourary citisenship, I am wearing my brown/blue/red/yellow plaid fleece Gilligan bucket lid with the "Roach" insignia on it, which, I don't have to tell you, is straight outta the BC, Vancouver to be exact......custom made by the kids at Roach cycleware.

Pretty popular in Oregon with the "I'm cool in a non-snowboard-sellout" set. But (i) it looks ridiculously difficult going downhill and (ii) I can't watch those guys without imagining my ankle breaking in 47 different places.
