Things to do in Portland when you're dead.
I hope this board manages to stay put for a while. It really hasn't had a chance to gather any momentum. Assuming someone eventually arrives to talk about the PNW, I'm wondering if there's any inside information on the demise of the Hagen Dye firm. Why did DiLorenzo leave? Have the remaining lawyers split into several factions, or just two? How about Ater Wynne? I hear associates are looking to leave that firm as quickly as possible. Let's hear some dirt.

i agree - this place was a fairly sizable presence on the pdx & trx scene. asi remember, they only had like 8 associates, but id like to get some dirst also.

We're all dead and doing nothing
So far things are looking pretty bleak for the future of the PNW forum on this site. PNW associates are pussies. For about 6 weeks back in mid 2000 there was a lot of traffic on the old greedy board, and then people got whiny and disappeared. McBVR and Penske kept things interesting. There's a lot of crazy shit that goes down in Portland and Seattle, and it's worth talking about. Maybe GAs are too worried about getting canned. But, if GAs are getting canned, keeping quiet about it doesn't help anyone.
Is the Preston Gates and Luce Forward merger going to happen? I've been wondering about that one. Preston and Luce fill similar positions in the Seattle and San Diego markets. I don't think the offspring of these two dinosaurs will be strong enough to survive the ice age that seems to have arrived. :liar: [FONT=times new roman][COLOR=orange] |

But then again, you are right, by and large, these PacNW asses are pussies. Scared to post, scared of the big bad money!! I got mine and if you had any sense of greed all ya'all would too! Bring down the greedy partners hierarchy. Flip the tenth tier bastards at Lane Powell the bird!!! LOL! Anyway, maybe someone should bring back MCBvr6 to liven things up. A rematch if you will. mano a mano. tete a tete. tit a tit!!! Bring it on baby!!!! Penske ps: Seems like the layoffs continue. I have been interviewing young comely lasses for associates positions of late and the list of firms laying off just keeps growing. The question becomes, who hasn't gotten laid? Off? |

Come and get some. :D
Try not to get too scared right away and run for help. That takes away all the fun. |
Mcbvr6.1 - Go back to the Greedy Associates Board!
I was afraid that you and your lackey, Socialist Agenda, would find this board. Do us all a favor and go back to Greedy Associates/Infirmation. They appreciate your form of lowbrow humor and vulgarity there.
Remember, I know who you are! Edited to note that this isn't really Penske. I'm not deleting (yet) because I find the whole thing amusing and because there is nothing more interesting going on around here. But flat-out impersonations have always been a deleting offense, so kindly stop using the fake Penske log-in. Just log in as Pusske or Socialist Agenda instead. tHank you. |
I know who you are too bitch.
Don't get me started on your candy-ass.
You couldn't handle me before and you certainly can't handle the new version. |
Socialist Agenda? Don't forget this lackey, you sick bastard.
I can't believe you'd disrespect me by leaving me out of the loop. I'm the biggest lackey there is, you sycophant.
This should be fun. |
McBeaver and pusske
I fart in the general direction of the two of you chumps.
Bugger off! the real Penske! |
Oh my god, that's really the best you've got?
You quote from Monty Python - that's like pounding the final nail in your nerd coffin. With tough talk like that it's no wonder the other kids at camp made you suck their dicks when the lights were shut off at night. |

ahh, yes, the estate tax again ...
>>who wants to rape and pillage the estates of hardworking Americans, like the family farmers, through the estate tax.<<
so, let me get this straight. your daddy makes a cool couple hunny mill, then dies, and you get it. tax free. well, you DID work for it. Lex. |
Estate tax
What the hell do you have against the estate tax? Anyone paying estate tax (family farms mostly excepted in this overly blanketed statement) can well afford it, or didn't plan properly. What are you...a Kennedy?

Anybody have anything NW-specific to say? Firm gossip? Beer? Wine? Copper River salmon? Do the transactional types out there have enough to do? At least in Portland, litigation seems plenty busy (despite the fact that our courts are now closed on Fridays). |

Speaking of NW wines I have had recently that I would recommend: on Friday I had a Cavatappi Sangiovese Molly's Cuvee-great with Italian/red sauce food. Very drinkable, i.e. buy a few bottles. On Sunday I had a 2002 Sineann Pinot Gris Oregon. Subtly chilled, at sunset, on the deck overlooking Lake Washington, I almost forgot about the misery of work. And the death tax. |

Wine
So since you people seem to drink as much wine as I do, I have a question. About a year (or two) ago I had some very nice Canoe Ridge Merlot. I heard they lost their main winemaker and have not had any since. Is it still as good as it was or has it fallen from grace. Also, had a very nice Oregon pinot this weekend called King Estate - reasonably priced in the restaurant so I don't know what it goes for in the stores.

New Pro Bono Rule?
Lawyers with heart? It could be a rule
Justices may prod more attorneys to offer free legal help By KATHY GEORGE SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER REPORTER Some lawyers say they can't spare the time or money to help poor clients for free. Others would like to help, but know little about housing, domestic violence or other laws most affecting the poor. Seattle lawyer William Broberg spends much of his time working pro bono cases, some of them in Judge Judith Hightower's courtroom. Such public service may be encouraged by the state Supreme Court. Then there are lawyers like Bro. As the Washington Supreme Court considers a proposed rule to encourage more free legal services, William Broberg stands out as a guy who needs no inducement. Bro, as he is known, could double his income if he wanted to. He could buy art for the bare white walls of his Pioneer Square office. But, in a profession that prizes deep-pocketed clients and billable hours, this young solo practitioner seems to prefer working for free. The Supreme Court is expected to decide soon, possibly today, on a rule proposed by the Washington State Bar Association that would spell out for the first time how much public-interest service a lawyer should donate. While the proposed rule recommends that every lawyer devote at least 30 hours a year to helping poor people otherwise shut out of the justice system, Broberg already has racked up about 100 hours of unpaid service this year. http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/local/...probono14.html |

NW Summers
Summer is winding down and all the now overfed summer associates are heading back to skool. Any good stories from the great NW? Are the big firms making offers to every summer who displayed a pulse?

Confirmation?
And for my 4th consecutive post....
Someone on the old board is reporting that "Peter Jarvis at Stoel Rives announced today that he will be leaving Stoel to open the Portland/Pacific Northwest office of Hinshaw & Culbertson." True? Any additional insight? If true, any idea how many Stoel associates will go with Jarvis? And, most importantly: any idea what Hinshaw will pay? |
Law.com associate survey
Posted by Ollie 10/03
Regional results are here: http://www.law.com/special/professio...ty_chart.shtml Nice of them to include all of one Portland firm. And interesting that said Portland firm finished dead last in the survey of Seattle firms (not surprising to see DWT first, as their associates seem to have convinced themselves that they've got a great shop; I'm not convinced). Based on the Stoel associates (past and present) I've known, I'm guessing they would'nt have been no. 1 in Portland if there was any competition at all. Ollie (hi Leagl!) Ramone |

Layoffs, anyone?
Heard unconfirmed reports that Bullivant has recently let people go in Portland. Can anybody confirm? Feel free to PM me if you actually read this and know something but don't want to post.

And another chance for all you eager northwesterners to post something; anything; hell, even Penske's Seattle-based socks are welcome at this point.
Any year-end bonus news out there? Feel free to pm me if you want me to post any confidential info. PNW Native, you in da house? Feel free to post here as much as you please. Your not likely to get flamed. Or to get any response at all, for that matter. But hey, give it a try. Love, Ollie |
A new year
Quote:
Anyway, I read through most of the posts on this forum (took all of about 4 minutes) to get a feel for the place. There doesn't seem to be a theme. Is there any unwritten 'rule' about verboten subjects? I mean generally within the bounds of semi-civilized society. For example, given the other forums on the board, if I post a message about law school, or politics, kids, etc. is it likely someone will respond 'take it to the ....' forum? I don't work in a firm, I'm strictly non-profit and work out of my house. I read the posts about local Seattle firms out of morbid curiosity but don't expect me to post any info about local firms. Anyway, this message is long enough. I'll stop now. |
Hey, you
you know who you are. I saw you viewing this forum. Now post, damn it.

My Little Board
Welcome, NWNative. You're unlikely to be run off here. Then again, you're unlikely to get any responses either. But feel free to give it a shot.
In theory, this board is, first and foremost, about gettin' paid in Seattle and Portland (and even in Tacoma, Spokane, Bend, Eugene, etc.). Secondarily, it's about PacNW life in general: housing issues, beer, wine, where to get the first Copper River salmon of the year, etc. I don't consider anything "off-topic" at this point. So feel free to post anything you want. Just don't be surprised by the deafening silence that meets you. Ollie (Native as well) Ramone |
