I feel this title slights those socks that never post their own thoughts but instead simply copy the thoughts (or blogs) of others. I would argue that Ty has never lied on this board, but instead he unknowingly copies the lies of others.

Food board crossover

On the Food board today, as many may be aware (although having said that I am not really sure how many crossover posters we really have), there was a discussion of things that grow in CA, and it was implicitly asserted that everything grows there.........and apparently as related to small business failures that is a true statement........

Small-business bankruptcies rise 81% in California

Well done Arnold and the Dems of CA. Way to make what was once the land of promise one of the most business unfriendly states in the nation.....world. Of course the politicians who lie will blame it on the larger economy........but anyone who has ever had the unpleasure to do business there knows that the problem transcends the Great Recession. No offence.

Bush lied!

Tora Bora constitutes one of the greatest military blunders in recent U.S. history.

The tax cuts notwithstanding, I truly believe Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld should be drawn and quartered in the public square for the failure outlined in that article, assuming that it is true. I hope after healthcare reform is done, Obama has the cojones to pursue a process that could yield this result.

No offence.

It sounds like a real error, but I don't get how it's a huge military blunder. It's not like bin Laden has done that much since then.

It was a blunder in how we deployed/utilised (underdeployed/misutilised?) our military, for what, ultimately, is a military action that continues to today, no?

Shit, I hope so. Otherwise, I've been watching a qualified defense by Ty of the Bush Administration, and a criticism of it by you, and I don't think I can fucking take that.

I read the first two pages, but there are eight pages! does the guy say how we could have sealed the border with more men? I know he says they wanted more men, and I'm sure cheney says no at page 4, but he also says you cannot seal the border.

does he say we should have paratrooped guys on the afghan side to seal behind?

I think the idea is not that we could have sealed the border per se, but that we had bin Laden pinned down and very well might have killed or captured him.

Really? I would like to see him shot through the penis by a Marine sniper, begging for his life from American captors but inevitably dying because the nearest coalition forces medic is a woman and he won't sign the consent to treatment. But maybe I'm just a different breed of cat.

Don't you think he'd prefer to be a martyr like that? Why give him the satisfaction.

And one assumes that in this situation you'd be able to overcome your prior reluctance to truck with prison rape.

Conservatives are weird.

Some guy I don't know, at NRO's The Corner:

Quote:

I have over the past couple of months been watching DVDs of Star Trek: The Next Generation, a show I missed completely in its run of 1987 to 1994; and I confess myself amazed that so many conservatives are fond of it. Its messages are unabashedly liberal ones of the early post-Cold War era – peace, tolerance, due process, progress (as opposed to skepticism about human perfectibility).
Call me nuts, but I don't think that it's possible to base a successful political movement on opposition to peace, tolerance, due process, and progress. Two or three of them, sure.

2. Put him in a plexiglass box in Time Square and make him live the remainder of his life (including bathroom breaks) as a freak exhibit in the midst of the ugliest Capitalism and Western decadence have to offer.

Can we still shoot off his wang? Maybe put it in a different plexiglas box, just out of reach?

Maybe, until he strikes, but regardless it was a blunder in military policy, regardless of the effects.

I am skeptical of your commitment to such an approach, so before I sign off on this, how does shooting off the wang compare to waterboarding?

I come down on the side of the general who authorized courts-martial for soldiers who become pregnant or impregnate another (sexy!) in a war zone. I think it's actually a setback for women's full participation in active duty service to have it out there that, for humanitarian reasons, we won't do anything about a particular set of soldiers being able to render themselves unfit for duty if doing so is ordinarily punishable as malingering. I think it's unfortunate that the media, in focusing on the harsh and unpleasant reality of "punishing" people for being pregnant, have no responsibility for coming up with fairer solutions that don't result in the overwhelming majority of female soldiers being rendered second-class warriors because of the perception that they can buy a ticket out of the shit and are looking for the opportunity to avail themselves of the option when things get hard.

But as you know, I'm a professional apologist for policymakers that are daily faced with impossible situations and are asked to solve them, only to be easy targets for some snot-nose fresh out of J-School who's never broken any eggs only because he's never made any omelettes.

Security theater.

[S]everal airlines released detailed information about the restrictions, saying that passengers on international flights to the United States would have to remain in their seats for the last hour of a flight without any personal items on their laps.

What is the point of this? So the guy on the NWA flight waited until the plane was about to land, but he just as easily could have tried to set off his explosives in the middle of the flight or at the beginning. Now you can't read a book? How about the in-flight magazine?

Although I love to see Federal bureaucratic incompetence exposed, this won't last, although bubblewrpping passengers at liftoff may not be far behind. Security > liberty to extremes.

isn't the problem that the Bush restrictions on liquids were not followed by other countries (and mocked by socks here (hi Ty)) and almost led to this plane being destroyed. so one could get on in Amsterdam with liquid (the security for the flight is right at the gate) and this guy dd.

perhaps these restrictions on getting up are an attempt to convince the dutch to upgrade their security and adopt the Bush liquid restrictions?

How much liquid did he have, and was it more than allowed? And I believe I have mocked many aspects of the TSA's current measures, but I don't recall that the liquids restrictions were included. As I'm sure you know, since you read my posts so closely, what bothers me is the emphasis on rules that inconvenience many people if not actual terrorists, see Detroit, rather than the use of competent people with sound discretion.
