 ABBA's thing about calories in minus exercise is totally blown out of the water.  Different people extract (sometimes radically) different amounts of calories from the EXACT SAME FOOD.  They did the calc for calories that should be needed to maintain body weight for some obese chick, and she gained almost a pound a day over 2 weeks.
 
 OTOH, I should exercise because it's healthy, and a stress reliever.  Even if it doesn't make me skinny.

 I once asked my HS science teacher "how many calories equal a pound."  I didn't get a satisfactory answer, and never have.  
It occurred to me later that perhaps the reason I didn't get a satisfactory answer was that I needed to ask how many kilojoules equal a kilogram, but I don't think that's it.
