I wouldn't do it for work, which to me is primarily about sending and receiving emails. BB is still the best for email, and as good as the iphone touch screen is, typing text of more than a few lines is still a lot easier on a BB keyboard.
For personal use, or for web browsing, the iphone is waaaay better. There is no comparison. It's in a different category.
That said, I'm with TM and would wait for the new model. I don't know how different it will be, but who wants to be behind the times in technology.
As for plan, there isn't that much to say. Unlimited data is required. You can get international plans if you travel (even if you only buy it for a month). Minutes and texts depend on usuage, but aren't any different than any other phone.
ETA: As for network, it isn't 100%, but in my travels so far around the US and a little bit abroad, it has been fine. I don't really get much for coverage where I currently am in the north woods, but that isn't really that different from tmobile or verizon. But it actually worked better than my tmobile blackberry in Egypt and Jordan (with the above mentioned international plan to not spend the whole paycheck).
The multiple aps thing that verizon/google tries to use as a differentiator isn't much of a big deal. Sure, sometimes it would be nice to switch out, but you can listen to music (ipod) while doing whatever, which is the main things I want to multitask. Also, the way it transitions from ipod to phone call and back is pretty cool.
